Only had the last rancid cd on yesterday...also a cracker

No Future - S/t absolutely living up to expectations, In Solitude/Reveal/Watain people doing the next logical step from "Sister" to these ears, it's that record without any metal elements and going straight up into dark post punk/goth. Amazing stuff.

The song I listened to on YouTube didn't fully grab me. It sounded interesting, and I could kind of hear what you meant about the Sister comparison, but maybe the total absence of metal threw me off. I wait and see if the full thing goes online at some point before making up my mind.

It's absolutely not a metal album at all. That song is pretty representative I'd say

First time hearing, on a recommendation. Not bad!

Prefer their earlier ones but there's not much in it, very consistent band. First two had Dominic Lapointe on bass though and which seals it for me, love his playing

Must check them out so, since the bass playing is the main stand out on this one too!

I agree with Trev there, it's probably the weakest of their three albums. Yiz won't be disappointed  :abbath:

Wrong album ;) The '93 one is the one in talking about.

I just saw Rancid s/t and immediately thought of Rancid 2000. That album is brilliant.
I started with And Out Come The Wolves, never really went back beyond it.

I stated with the 2000 s/t and was kinda disappointed with the rest of their stuff. It's decent, very catchy, but lacks the piss and vinegar of 2000.

Some of it is also far too close to the obvious hero worship of The Clash. Dead Bodies is their catchiest song for me, and has the piss+vinegar in spades, so it's not like they couldn't write catchy stuff in that style.

IV is great...just not quite AS great in my eyes.

Gates of Dawn - "III"

Mad auld psych black metal.  Lofi production, mental passages, slide guitar, it has a bit of everything, comes out class.  Except maybe the back half of the 15 minute jam track on there, it's grand but the rest of the album is better.

Yop - "In Vile Viciousness"

Deadly post-punk / gothy stuff from Mayo.  Dunno what I was expecting with the name but it wasn't this.  It's great anyway and perfect on headphones for knocking around in the crispy weather.

Manilla Road - Spiral Castle 9/10
You could nearly go full marks on this 'Road classic but I have the High Roller version featuring the godawful 'Throne Of Lies' which should have stayed cut like it was for the original pressing.

Anacrusis - Reason 8.5/10
Picked up a CD digipack of this when my tape called it a day after a good 35 years of service. This was the first Anacrusis I heard/owned so it's adventurous, manic prog-thrash is virtually part of my DNA at this stage. Killer band with four killer albums.

Trenchant - Commandoccult 7/10
One and only so far from these Texan Blackened Death Metallers, a cracking '22 debut falling somewhere between Marduk and Angelcorpse on the Metal Richter Scale, these martially themed tracks hit hard.

Hirax - El Rostro De La Muerte 8/10
2009 release from the perennial thrash underdogs unleashes some good friendly violent fun with a set of short ,sharp and, to be fair, pretty straightforward bangers that just  gain that extra edge thanks to the ferocity in intent of Katon's delivery.

Kanonenfieber - Die Urkatastrophe 7/10
I'd heard about but never heard this one man project then saw the eyebrow raising, cancel bait cover nestled on the racks in HMV after the Testament gig so I got it out of there and had me some easily digestible melodic Black Metal with big catch all choruses on the discman for the journey home. Not nearly as 'dangerous' as I thought it was going to be, the lyrics are all in German and some cries of Deutschland Deutschland in the first track are as racy as it gets. The fact I had it pegged after a few tracks tells me there's not much of real substance here, repeated listens are unlikely to reveal much else than what's already served up, I can see why Century Media picked them up though.

Primal Fear - Domination 7/10
Thirty+ years in the game now for Primal Fear so they know a bit about writing a catchy Power Metal track or two , well there's thirteen of 'em plus a bonus track here on this new one and despite a few line up changes the band are as on point as ever and it has to be said, Scheepers still sounds stunning for a man now in his 60th year. Fair fucks.
