I have only ever had a dog react once to music. It was years ago. I was in my room, the dog came in jumped on the bed while I was putting Black Witcherys second album on. As soon as the intro to the first song came on which has loads of demonic type voices mumbling incoherently the dog stood up, went all stiff then jumped off the bed and ran out of the room

I've had this one for years and go back to it every so often as I always hear people laud it as some sort of masterpiece but I still find it so so dull and uninteresting bar a few moments here and there.

Giving it a go now

Opening 2 tracks are great  :abbath:

Not masterpiece material, but still rockin'

I turned it off

Fist 3 songs are great

4th track is more an AOR song

Next song is a bit weak

Then it just seems to lose conviction/focus, swaying too much stylistically

Then one of those sad acoustic intros to a song ... that was me done!

Not sure of the singer either. He started to annoy me

Haha yeah that's usually how it goes for me too. "This is better than I remember!" Then trails off and I don't finish it.

I am obsessed with this album, just hasn't came out of regular listens since release.  Top class and gets better every time.  Possibly AOTY already

Other than the Weepecker, latest stuff on and off:

Entombed - "Left Hand Path" & "Clandestine"
Sure look what is there to say here.  Just savage start to finish in both cases.  Makes me want to put the HM2 on my board every time.

Oranssi Pazuzu - "Muuntautuja"
Great album.  It took me a while to love it as much as the previous album but its class.  Still finding things in it after fuck knows how many listens.

Machiavellian Art - "Population Control"
Just unreal, ripping bad vibes psych punk stuff.  Slapping delayed vocals, everything distorted to shit, every riff a total bastard.  I love it.  A sort of Killing Joke circa "Extremities" buzz off it, kind of Bloody Head kick here and there, but definitely faster than both of those

Agreed, such a beautiful flow to it.

Soen - Reliance
Savaged - Rising
Pain of Salvation - One Hour By The Concrete Lake
Temptress - Catch the Endless Dawn

Have that Weedpecker on loads the last few weeks too, great gear.
Kairon;IRSE! - Ruination . Forgot how good this is, lush psych pop and rocks like a bastard too

Deathspell Omega- Infernal Battles. I can't remember the last time I put this on. I didn't like it then because I had jumped in on Kenôse and this was a much more straight forward affair. It's stylistically more to my taste these days, but what's with the massive drop in production values from track 5 on? Is the second half just a rehearsal stuck on?

I think its two releases slapped together, like two demos or whatever. Been a while since I listened and never gave it much attention compared to the later releases myself, I must revisit and see if it sticks with me.

Edit: tracks 5-8 are in fact a rerelease of disciples of the ultimate void, if metallum is accurate.

Yeah, it seems the last few songs are the Disciples of the Ultimate Void demo stuck on. Why the fuck would you release your debut album in such a slapdash way? If they had even rerecorded those songs to tie in sonically with the first four songs I'd get it. Just seems a bit lazy, which is odd considering how technical they have become known for.

Inexperience and the folly of youth? Who knows. Does seem at odds with the hyper considered nature of the later releases. Perhaps they recorded a new demo and the label wanted an album or no deal

Imma relisten to the first few records at work tomorrow and reassess my thoughts on them. As it stands I never rated anything prior to Si momentum as particularly good.

Everything they have done, maybe with the exception of the last one, is between good and great.

Ah yeah they're one of my favorite bands, easily.

Latest album had its moments, particularly the drumming on the first two tracks. But overall the album fizzles as it plays out, sadly. Hard to follow up an album as good as furnaces.

Early DSO is great. Manifisations 2002 is one the best things they have released.

Be hard pressed to rank them but def a highlight of the Shaxul era.
