Between Sanctuary, Nevermore, and his solo stuff, I don't think Dane ever put out a bad album

No arguments there, didn't exactly love his solo stuff but not a bad album from him anywhere.

Manowar: Warriors Of The World   (CD)  remaster

From 2002. Not essential when it comes to Manowar, having said that, an awesome album in general.

Slayer- Reign of Justice! Live in Berlin 87. I got this old bootleg off a mate 25 years ago or thereabouts. I think I maybe listened to it once before. Proper bootleg quality, but it's decent. It captures the wild youthful energy of the band.

Bölzer- Hero.  Going in to see these bucks with Portal this evening. Long time since I've seen either band live so it should be fun. I'm hoping for plenty of new material from the forthcoming Bölzer album.

The Crown - Crowned in Terror
Slayer - Seasons in the Abyss
Obituary - Slowly We Rot
Megadeth - Rust in Peace

Pretty good. A slightly loose set from Bölzer with a couple of fuck ups. They've been in the studio and I reckon they are a bit rusty on the older stuff so I'll forgive it. The two new songs they played sounded great so high hopes for the new album. I was wondering if shaving the noggin might reduce some of Okoi's presence but not a bit. He owned the stage completely as usual.

Portal were savage. They aren't a band I'd ever listen to on CD but live they are a force of nature. A black hole perhaps. Just all encompassing on every sensory level.

There was a support band who were pretty decent. They had a name. It had lots of letters in it, most of which appeared to be Xs and Zs. I didn't even try to put it all together.

I think I might be getting far too old and grumpy for gigs though. Some dude came and stood in front of me, lifted up his phone and stared filming Portal. After fifteen seconds of craning my neck to see the stage I put my hand up and held it in front of his face for five seconds. He seemed confused for a second or two and then fucked off.

The phone's at gigs thing is getting more and more annoying no doubt we will see a sea of phones at the Dublin show next month. I have no issue with someone taking a photo / 10 - 20 second video or two I usually do it myself but starting to see a lot more people lately who want to film the majority of the show and they don't give a shit that the people behind them can't see. The Pentagram show last month was really bad for it.

I was at Peter Kay 2 years ago I think it was and he did a whole speech thing pleading with people not to film the end of the show as he wanted it to be a surprise for others since the same show would be running for the next few of years. It involved him being suspended in the air and moving over part of the crowd. Of course a few pricks still stood up trying to get videos of what he was doing as he passed over them.

Like these people that record 25 minutes of a gig on their phones,do they ever watch it back in full?

I took a 30 second clip of I am Morbid the other  night; that's all you're getting off me!
