Vemod the deepening is a very cool album but you wouldn't want to be listening to it with previous output in mind.

I also love that early Bethlehem output so great choices Pentagrimes.

I spent that last couple of days driving around the Scottish western highlands. Initially I was being quite democratic and putting on neutral type stuff wife and kids would also enjoy. After a while I went fuck it and stuck on the gear the landscape demanded.

Darkthrone - Panzerfaust
Mourning Beloveth - a murderous circus

Took the title for joint most enjoyable misty mountain lochs and glens music  :D

Lord Belial - Kiss The Goat 9/10
Updated this old Black Metal gem from a manky old Maxwell tape copy to a shiny new Floga reissue cassette. Must hunt down the new one that's just out.

Sepulchral Curse - Crimson Moon Evocations 8/10
New one from these Finnish Death mongers and there's more melodies and dynamics this time around though still very much dark, brutal stuff with the only slight gripe being the monotone vocal style. I mean not everyone can be David Vincent but c'mon, a bit of character or at least a different pitch to stay with the tenor of the music.

Morgoth - Ungod 8.5/10
Revamped and rejuvenated in 2015, the Geman Death Metal Godz
dropped one last crushing payload that even the absence of Marc Grewe couldn't prevent from impressing.

Witch Mountain - Witch Mountain 8/10
A real hazy Summer's evening (Remember those?) album this, Kayla Dixon's bluesy doom vocals a perfect fit for the band's heavy stoner approach.

Darkthrone - Soulside Journey 6/10
Darkthrone's debut, more in line with the early Swedish Death Metal albums than the scathing Black Metal to come, a cold, ponderous, at times plodding release that nearly got fucked out the window when I got it home over a quarter of a century ago. It does though have one of my favourite album covers, a bleak vista of post apocalyptic alienation that maybe speaks to some of the lifeless passages within. There's no lack of good, meaty riffs here but when it comes to Death Metal Darkthrone I'll take Goatlord any day.

Consumption - Catharsis 6/10
Out earlier this year, second one from the Carcass (Heartwork era) loving Swedes doesn't do enough to keep the attention as one after another of these twelve (!) tracks race by without leaving much of an impression. Not bad but it's a tough crowd in a heady year for Death Metal.

Ministry- Psalm 69. I haven't listened to this in years now. What a fucking album... I had forgotten how good it was. It's so dark and evil sounding.
