Twice a year is enough.

Watchtower- Concepts of Math: Book One

Been 10 years now since this came out, don't know if Book Two is ever going to come out at this point

Exodus - Another Lesson in Violence

I would have liked to have seen Exodus with Baloff, he seemed like great craic.

"This one is about fish. It ain't about no GOLDfish

*drum roll*

And it ain't about no STARfish TUNAfish

*drum roll kick kick kick kick*

And it ain't about noo TROUT

*drum roll*

This song, is called, PIRAHNAUHAHAHAHAHAHAAA"

On the contrary, he sounded like a total ballbag from many of the stories I've heard. Ripping people's shirts off them if he didn't approve and trying to police who the posers were from the tough guys like him. Had he lived in Dublin, he'd have had his ass handed to him for being a prick.

Necromantia - Scarlet Evil,Witching Black 9/10
Infamous for their two bass, no rhythm guitar approach, Necromantia are top of the pile for Greek Black Metal for me ,from the ones I've heard, and this is their magnum opus. Good job too because it'd a shame to have such a damn cool title for your record and for it to be a stinker

Warlock - True As Steel 8.5/10
Another great album title! 1986 and Doro and her boys have tinged their classic German Steel with a bit of the Sunset Strip resulting in their third album being a rousing, fist pumping call to arms.

In The Woods... - Diversum 8/10
In The Woods are of course a long time out of the woods at this stage, confidently picking their way through the wilds of middle age like the wilful, seasoned musicians they are and this was a classy collection of tracks to add to their canon. Still haven't laid hands on the new one though.

Usurper - Threshold Of The Usurper 8/10
Savage little follow up to the debut, a 35 minute EP that unleashes the band's lust for Hellhammering Black Thrash with a Mercyful Fate cover thrown in to sweeten the deal. Studded gauntlets and leather pants are mandatory for this one  :abbath:

Sijjin- Helljjin Combat 7/10
Thrash Metal masquerading as Death Metal or vice versa? Either way this second one from the Germans(featuring ex-members of Necros Christos) is an unexpected turn but one that has grown more and more on me.

Obituary - Dying Of Everything 6/10
Latest one from the Obi's ,grabbed it on vinyl as the artwork was cool ,certainly more striking than the mid-paced, grooving Death Metal on offer therein that is really only lifted above the average by JT's eternally rotten voicebox.

Sepulchral Mass- demo. So cool.

Malokarpatan- Vertumnus Caesar. I've neglected this album. It sounds OK but somehow isn't connecting like the earlier ones. It will be interesting to see what direction they take next as Adam is a highly inventive writer.

Samael- Ceremony of Opposites. Classic and nostalgic.

Bretwaldas of Heathen Doom- Summoning the Gatekeepers.

Beherit- Drawing Down the Moon.

NIN: Broken

30+ years later and it's a mighty EP. The two covers at the end piss on the originals.

So I found a website this week that has an archi ve of Tommy Vance's "Frisday Rock Show" and I've been dipping in and out of the late 80s episodes, stuff I would have taped off the radio waiting in the hope I'd hear some obscure thrash. Here's an example, download links at the bottom of the page. it's very cool to be able to hear this again as that and "Monsters of Rock" on Sky  were my only source for being able to hear any of the bands I was reading about in Kerrang until I got to Secondary school a year or two later

All good with this kinda nostalgia rather than hearing bands in 2025 trying to create an 80s vibe..but I'll give the Hexecutor a go, the tune I heard was alright
