Right another monster of an album released 20 years ago today (Facebook prompting all these album memories)! The Crown- Death Race King!,obviously not your traditional Swedish DM sound, but iid consider this one of the best to come out of that country!

the crown were hyped a fair bit in those days, like even kerrang would do stuff for the crown or the haunted etc, in the midst of peak deftones et al

Saw them promoting that album in Eamonn Dorans with Medulla Nocte and the Haunted also on the bill. Had not heard Deathrace King at the time but puchased it later that day in Tower Records as the Haunted were having an instore signing session. They were on fire that day and gave Medulla Nocte who performed right after them a thankless task. Not one weak track on the album which still gets regular spins. Unbelievable it's now two decades old.

Yeah a few of us travelled up from Cork for that, great gig all round, was a big fan of The Haunteds first two albums, but The Crown were the real draw for me!

I think I was at that.  I definitely saw The Haunted and MN back then but I can't remember anything about The Crown.  Never got into any of those bands.

Fugazi - Steady Diet of Nothing
Life lover- Konkurs
Destroyer666 - Wildfire
Def Leppard - On Through the Night
Primordial - Spirit the Earth Aflame

New Cauldron Black Ram went up on Spotify during the week. Really good stuff. Lots of quirky time signatures, off-kilter riffs, as well as some straight-up headbanging moments. Just in the middle of listening to another album of theirs now, again, really good!

Haven't had this on in a good while but it's better than I remember.

My Dying Bride- 'The Angel and the Dark River'. What a brilliant album. I ordered 'Like Gods of the Sun' the other day,  an album I haven't listened to since the 90s, but one I remember enjoying back then. It'll be interesting to see how it holds up.

I've always considered that one to be their best. I remember the older brother having the tape and I went through a good spell of just flipping it over again and again. I never got into Like Gods.. though, it just didn't seem as epic or something.

Coupla great tracks on it, but like a lot of MDB albums there's a fair amount of fairly average stuff on it.

In fairness,  'The Angel and the Dark River' is a masterpiece so it's a bit unfair to compare the two. I listened to the opening track of 'Like Gods...' earlier and remembered it and thought it sounded cool.  They still had a bit of bite about them in the production department.  I think 'The Dreadful Hours', another fantastic album,  was the beginning of the sterile production era that has ruined them for me.  I was chatting to Rodge (WOTH etc) recently and he was praising the new album so I'll have to check it out.  I liked the single anyway.

New album is good but I'd be hesitant to say very good. There's a couple of totally unnecessary tracks, either instrumental or just female vocals. Kinda pointless and ruins the flow, cos the actual songs are good to very good.

I'll grab it at some point and fire it on in the car.
