If you don't like Manowar, you don't like heavy metal.

That's not how the lyric goes  :P  :abbath:

Katatonia - Dance of December Souls, Brave Murder Day.

Edge of Sanity - Crimson, Purgatory Afterglow.

Dan Swano - Moontower.

Death:Symbolic (and hoping that the repress doesn't sell out)
Gruesome:Twisted Prayers
Soundgarden:Louder Than Love

Grave Digger - The Bone Collector 8/10
The Germans really are in rude health on this one and I reckon it's my most played new release of the year to date. As fine a collection of straight up Heavy Metal songs as Boltendahl and Co. have ever come up with.

Warfield - With The Old Breed 7/10
More Germans, new thrash this time, I actually thought they were a new band but they've been about on and off since 2012. Good stuff this, marrying an Exodus style riffage with a Petrozza-like bark and some pretty nifty songwriting to boot.

Imperishable - Swallowing The World 7/10
New on Hammerheart and also new on me these Swedes deal in a melodic Death Metal which brings to mind the likes of At The Gates, Night In Gales and Gardenian . Oh and let's not forget the blatant Dismember guitar line they co-opted for the first track. Marti Karki and the boys do get a nod in the thanks list. I should think so.

Destruction - Birth Of Malice 6/10
Album number 16 for Destruction sees a startling shift away from...Ah no, of course it doesnt, this is the usual modern Teutonic Thrash by numbers from a band who are (deservedly) happy to make hay while the sun shines. And it's just in time for festival season. No flies on Schmier.

Testament - Titans Of Creation 6/10
Servicable at best from Testament and not much sticks here beyond the satisfyingly heavy stomp of 'Symptoms', really like that one. Another super slick production job like the Destruction that sucks the soul right out of this stuff.

Rotting Christ - Rituals 4/10
Dusted this down after seeing it on Anvil's playlist.
Rotting Christ almighty where's the riffs? This is like a soundtrack to Spartacus or something, all percussive stomps and militant chants . It's alright but there'll still be more dust on it the next time it comes off the shelf I suspect.
Wearing jeans and leather, not crackerjack clothes

Have had Draconian Times on all day. An amazing album that somehow suits the sunny weather perfectly. Unreal to think it's been 30 years since it was released.

I actually like Rituals as an album.  Maybe it isn't a good Rotting Christ album but there is something about it that resonates with me.

Sepultura - Arise
Iotunn - Kingship
Midnight Force - Severan
Riot - Thundersteel

Quite Riot - QR, 1988 album of heavy blues rock, not bad at all with the passage of time.  Wouldn't have given it a second look in the late 80's

Conan - Violence Dimension
