Godflesh - "Streetcleaner". One of those albums I've owned for 20+ years and never clicked with. Took a notion to give it a whirl today and it's a beaut 

Unleashed - "Shadows in the Deep". Mainly for the Venom cover.

Cobalt - Slow Forever 8.5/10
In 2016 the reborn, revamped Cobalt left mouths agape, around here anyway, with this 84 minute slab of sludge/southern rock/blues/prog that affectively buried past Black Metal leanings and took the band in a whole new direction. Let's say more Today Is The Day/Tool as opposed to Takke/Tsjuder.

Dark Tranquillity - Atoma 8/10
The latest DT left me pretty nonplussed to be honest but this came off the shelf this week and I've surprisingly spun it numerous times. The Band have been incorporating that cold Paradise Lost melancholy into their Melodeath for years now and this was the culmination of that back in 2016. Looks like the new one is back on the shopping list again so.

Sargeist - Unbound 7.5/10
The first sign of bright Summary weather invariably has me reaching for something cold and grim in some sort of mental retaliatory strike. The latest Sargeist is not as raw and savage as previous releases and there are eyebrow raising moments of melody throughout but it still leaves a satisfyingly icy pall to shield against those nasty sunbeams permeating the man cave.

Darkthrone - Artic Thunder 7.5/10
After getting that eighties denim and leather phase out of their systems with previous albums the Darkthrone boys for their serious heads on again resulting in a dark, heavy record redolent of prime Celtic Frost.

Attic - The Invocation 7/10
After finally getting on board with the Mercyful Fate worshipping Germans last year I've gone back to the start and picked up this sumptuous Van Records reissue of the first album which is certainly decent but preference is still for the latest one.

Xentrix - Scourge 3/10
In 1996 Xentrix released the aptly titled Scourge and leapt right off that stuttering Thrash train and right into oblivion. And for what? For Whose Advantage? the band now faced a Shattered Existence as they stood before kith and Kin as sell-outs and wouldn't return to Bury The Pain until 2019. I have fuck all for Seven Words though.
