Iron Maiden - Powerslave
Iron Maiden - Somewhere in Time
Iron Maiden - Seventh Son of a Seventh Son (the title track is just so good).

Will probably continue going through the Maiden studio albums if I get peace this weekend.  Though after A Matter of Life and Death, it really gets patchy.

Malevolent Creation- Envenomed ,an album I've always liked, very rarely gets a mention.

I still reckon The Evil That Men Do is my favourite track on SSOASS, making it a strong contender for my favourite Maiden track, if I have one. Title track also class, natch.

The Evil That Men Do is sublime.

Haven't actually listened to Maiden in a long while, must do a discography run through before the gig

Being more melodic and commercial sounding than their previous albums, it was always going to piss some existing fans off. It's a decent album with a couple of filler tracks maybe but y'know yerself, any change of direction inevitably polarises people.

Yeah, of course, tale as old as time really. I just kind of feel like it's undeniably quality.

Man I wish every band sold out like this!

Now Playing - Carcass - Heartwork, Surgical Steel, Necroticism. Probably one for the controversial opinions thread, but those are my top three Carcass albums in order.

I've no idea how Heartwork is so divisive, it's just such a quality album start to finish

Obvious answer: probably because those of us of a certain age who'd grown up with the Carcass that produced Reek and Symphonies were perhaps not interested in hearing them explore their Traditional heavy metal roots. A lot of the things that had been special about them initially were all gone by the time Heartwork rolled around, basically.

I'll  admit it's a very well written record, and I can see the appeal now. but I still don't care for it a whole lot. Interestingly, I liked Necroticism at the time but I went back to it a few years ago and its aged quite poorly. Some good ideas but its bloated and overlong.

That's fair enough, context. I wasn't around at the time so didn't get that. My introduction to Carcass actually was Heartwork, 17, stoned as fuck, mind absolutely blown. I'm a fan of all their stuff to be honest, probably because I got to look back on a discography with no expectations vs following the development in real time of a band disappointing me. I just think it's great songs back to back, top notch performances and gorgeous production so I'm just surprised how it seems to draw similar ire as objectively dodgy stuff like Metallica and Slayer's worst moments.

Maiden - SSOAS
Maiden - Number of the Beast
Maiden - Somewhere In Time
Priest - Defenders of the Faith

The kind of playlist that leaves you thinking, there's really just no hope for people who don't like metal!  :abbath:
