Patton's ego is the main reason I enjoy FNM to begin with. You couldn't pay me to listen to the albums without him.

Oh god no, they're awful shite.

I'm a huge fan of the original 4 with him - well, 3 of them; KFAD isn't the best - but there's nothing on Sol Invictus for me. He's completely taken over and the others sound restrained and barely there.

I never listened to Sol Invictus. I should give it a go but I'm not sure if 'new' FNM will have much to offer me at this stage. Or have they magically incorporated a bittersweet sense of nostalgia into the music?

I honestly can't remember, I'm just going by my initial reactions to it. Haven't heard it since not long after it came out, didn't bother buying it.

It's weak as fuck, nothing to really merit repeated listens. You need to give the Mosely albums a fair go, lads, they're fucking superb.

Sol Invictus was Patton doing them a favor,as mean as that sounds.

A decent payout from the festivals and it was back to normal.
One of the stories that was hinted at was Bill and the management went ahead and started taking offers for shows (The Big Korn/SOAD gig in LA being one), and didn't inform Patton.

They were a band who didn't really get on to begin with with Roddy being the peacemaker for the most part.

Sol Invictus is boring as fuck.

I still really like Sol Invictus, still also think "Black Friday" is their worst song. Interesting to see the Patton comments, I was under the impression it was mostly written by Gould and Bottom.

Also 100% Pro Moseley."Introduce Yourself" is next to "Angel Dust" for me, which is probably an age thing as bear in mind I'm old enough to have been entranced by "We Care A Lot" being all over Sky Channel as a child, so it was quite an early record for me. I get that his voice is Marmite though.

His voice is appalling but the music under it does little for me either. They just weren't there yet for me, but each to their own. I hopped on those first two albums after getting into The Real Thing and they were a huge letdown, repeated returns to them give the same results.

The whole thing came about when they all got pissed at Roddy's wedding😂
The main booker at Download had been hinting at them for years too that there'd be decent but of cash probably helped.

Love the Chuck era stuf, which reminds me, must track down those records on one of my "drank a rake of cans, sure I'll treat myself with drunken purchases" nights😂

Sol Invictus is better than album of the year but that doesn't mean much.

The gold of the Patton era is obviously The Real Thing and Angel Dust but the Mosley material is right in behind it. The one constant to their high quality is Jim Martin

If people hate the  Mosely era so much I pray ye never see the footage of them with Courtney Love..

I quite like Album Of The Year, it's generally my go-to FNM album these days. I'm not saying it's anywhere near as good as The Real Thing or Angel Dust but I've absolutely played them to death at this stage, I only bring them out when I'm in the mood.

It's rough. Think all of them knew it was a bad idea including Courtney 😂

Candlemass - Nightfall
The well of souls must stay seeealed !
And that riff afterwards...  :abbath:

All the FNM talk has me on Angel Dust again. Such a flawless album.
