That's two of them in as many years, if my numbers are correct. Great band and the last album was deadly.

Avenger/Rage co-founder and guitarist Jochen Schroeder has died.

Aul Paddy Moloney, bless 'im.

Time for a reminder of what Zappa had to say bout Paddy and the Chieftains:

QuoteFrank Zappa circa 1993 speaking to Irish journalist, Joe Jackson

"U2 is maybe the most popular and successful musical export coming from Ireland today, but there's no comparison between the musical quality of what they do and what The Chieftains do. We play together here nearly every time they're in town and I love the sounds these guys make. I love the melodies and the chord changes, and especially the way their music is performed. Each member of the group is an expert on his instrument, not just in terms of technique, but in terms of the concept they have of what the final ensemble product is supposed to sound like. That is something you are only going to get with a group that has been together 30 years. People describe U2 as "post modern rockers", but what does that mean? Do they themselves know? And which would you rather have? Mediocre invention, or a direct linear descent from Celtic culture, which is what i hear in the music of The Chieftains? The Chieftains are their own culture and I hear traces of not only Celtic history but global history in their work, echoing back to the beginning of time. I've noticed that when they play here in my home with ethnic musicians from all over the world."

Imprecation drummer Ruben Elizondo has passed away due to COVID complications. A band around in the early days, and IIRC a young Jamie Grimes tape traded me some of their stuff. I had't heard anything new since the Repulse release in 1995, so checking out some "new" stuff now.
1966-2021 RIP

Very sad to hear that, and yes Quirkey you remember correctly. That was one of the last great US demo of that era.  If I remember correctly  he wrote a lot of the music and added the creepy synth parts, so he probably wrote that riff we knocked in Drainland.

R.i.p.

Sad news indeed. Did I see a 7" of theirs down your gaff as well when I was visiting as a young whipper snapper myself?

Great tribute to The Chieftains from Zappa, RIP Mr. Moloney.

These non-metal people really should be over in off-topic though, this thread is littered with all sorts!

You probably would have yep. Picked up the discography cd in the Sound Cellar about 10 years ago for a fiver, the 7" was long gone at that stage.

The albums are pretty good, worth a listen.

It's out of frame, but Paddy's actually throwing the horns in this pic!  :abbath: :abbath:

He rocked out with Gary Moore... that's enough, sure!   :abbath:

Andrea Meyer, killed in a Muslim terrorist attack.
Have liked Hagalaz Runedance a bit, ages ago.
Her spoken words on the first Cradle Of Filth have left a lasting impression on me.

Malcolm Dome has now also passed away, at 66. Can't say I even often agreed with his views, but no doubting how much he did for metal in the UK and beyond.

Trump supporter was he?

Sad news. He was on my radar in the 90s via Metal Hammer. 66 is very young. RIP.

Fuck, didn't hear about this. RIP.

'90s 2FM DJ Simon Young died yesterday as well. Reading a Hot Press interview with him from 2011, he went through the ringer back in the day. No cause of death given.
