Quote from: Carnage on Today at 02:43:35 AMI spent this evening with a friend of Hansard, going back decades. He was effusive about the man and some of the stories he told me put him (gesture) up there, to the point of him being a serious sound out guy.

Inevitably I had to ask him about the rumours and insinuations and he said he'd never seen any sign of that kind of carry on in the 25 years he'd known him. I pushed it as far as I could and he was resolute.

Make of that what you will. This man is a father of a daughter who would have been of that age and presence at the time.
Plenty of convicted rapists get character references from half the parish.

My understanding is he was a lech who liked them on the younger side but at the same time not a full blown rapist, just yknow bit creepy.

I don't think he'll be shaking his reputation among those aware of it. His two publicly known relationships involve, respectively, a 17 year and a 22 year age gap. His own description of his proposal to his now widow is him slipping his mother's ring on her finger at his mother's graveside and whispering "Now we're married" (direct quote). At the time, he would have been ~50 and she ~28. Nothing illegal about that either, but I defy anyone to conjure up the image of that scene and not have it be weird and creepy. That alongside him saying of when he met her, his reaction was "Oh, there's the mother of my children" (direct quote).

All of this publicly known stuff paints a picture that fits very easily with the other allegations, which date back to the 90s when he was in his 20s: a dude who was fucking weird regarding girls and women much, much younger than him who he was (sexually) attracted to.

Poor ould Vinny Pastore, he was 80 - just a kid.
Legendary character was Big Pussy.

Anyway, 4 dollars a pound.

As I said before I'm not denying what's been said or making excuses for his behaviour, I was just presenting the perspective of one person who knew him. I'm sure that down the line there'll be a proper exploration of the subject once the dust settles.
