Haha yeah delighted with my haul, and people say there's no more gold out there left to find!

And yeah his list had something like 250 records, not all metal but a fair bit of NWOBHM/80s stuff. He did have a copy of Pantera - I am the Night but oddly was onto that one and wanted 300 for that. I have couple of other records I'll hit him up about, definitely some interesting stuff in there but a lot I'm not really after,  I'm not into flipping so I'll let the rest be someone else's lucky day!

Had a crazy FB marketplace find this week. Old guy posted a link to a Google doc spreadsheet that wasn't working, when I asked him he gave me some sketchy email address to contact, when I got the list there were no gradings or pressing info, just a list of records that were priced suspiciously cheap. The whole thing seemed dodgy but I knew the Madison/Blind Fury/Blacklace didn't have a modern reissue and a bit obscure for a scam so I chanced it, the fella then sends me his account details and it's some online bank, I was convinced I was being scammed but a few days later these turn up!

I couldn't believe it when I opened the trouble and it's the first metal Blade US press from 1984! I had a look on Discogs and the last few of these went for $200+  ???

And both Tokyo Blade records came with the original merch order form!

I asked him what the story was with them after they arrived and he said he bought them all in the 80s and played them once to convert to cassette and has had them sitting in storage since.

Thank fuck they arrived in one piece he sent them just fucked in a bubble envelope and not a single bit of cardboard   :-X

Bloody successful gamble all round  :abbath:

Quote from: Eoin McLove on July 01, 2026, 02:38:19 AMWe are on a day trip to/ through the Blue Mountains. When we exited the train station what do I see across the road to an ancient record store called The Velvet Fog. Be rude not to, says you. I have a flock through the tshirt rack and there's a feckin Pantheist- O Solitude tshirt there. Yoink!  8)

Total redneck, dilapidated Village... what are the chances.

Katoomba! Weird as fuck town! Did you go past the cafe run the cult? When I was at that same record shop they had a first press Under One Flag copy of Blood Fire Death which I thought was random too, but for $300 they kept it..

Does anyone know what Christophe Szpajdel charging for a logo these days? He's still hammering them out and according to MA he's done 10,000+ logos ??? . I've a friend of a friend who just got a logo done up for his solo project and it does look pretty cool but I don't know him well enough to ask so I'm curious of what it costs.

But of an unsung gem From the NWOBHM era, and a good riposte for anyone who dismisses it all as dad rock, this has more of an edge to it than many of its contemporaries, almost proto thrash in its high energy delivery yet always retaining that traditional hard rock style.

Fossilization - Advent of Wounds 8/10
New from the Brazilians and a record that only increases their lurking presence in the putrified pond of underground Death Metal. This is going to make my end of year list I'd imagine, getting better with every spin.

Reversed - Widow Recluse 7.5/10
The Canadians announced themselves in 2018 with this arachnid themed demo that impressed in all its reckless thrashing abandon. Vinyl pick up, love the cover.

Dimmu Borgir - Grand Serpent Rising 7.5/10
Parted way with Dimmu and their overwrought symphonics many freezing moons ago but I picked this up cheap and it's not been fucked out the window at all, there's definitely been a dialling back of the pomp and circumstance, (very) relatively speaking, a little more focus on the riffs and  the meat and bones of the tracks, it's waaay too long of course, nothing new there, it's not Dimmu without the overindulgence but..yeah, so far..I think my window is staying shut.

Cancer - Shadow Gripped 7/10
2018 return that worked quite well as a throwback to their gory days rather than heralding any bright new chapter for the band. Album cover sucks, looks more like a Belphegor effort. Yeah, I think this is scraping a 7 for me these days after initial apathy.

Barbarian - Viperface 6/10
Haven't nabbed this year's release from these Italian troglodytes but I imagine it's not wildly advanced from this clattering, retrograde black thrash ,  like having an army of Orcs and rivetheads  come to smash up all your Dream Theater lps.

I'm a huge NWOBHM fan but that Savage record never really clicked with me for whatever reason, will try again today!

Quote from: ldj on June 28, 2026, 12:34:02 AMAlrite, controversial opinion, Bruce Dickinson, arguably the GOAT, can't fault him musically... he's nearly got it all...except he's just not cool, is he?

Few beers deep blasting some Maiden bootlegs from the 80s and his between song banter is tragic, "I don't know anything about football but I'm going to spend every song break talking about football to sound working class".

Now Dianno...he was fucking cool. I'll leave the hall.

Brilliant frontman, if not the best but I don't think I've ever really thought of him as 'cool', I've always thought of him as a goofy poshboy, which is part of the charm.

It was a pretty good interview but he was definitely hesitant to give anything personal away, he seems like a hard man to interview. The word association with British food was a bit random and awkward. I was most surprised to hear he's 6ft6! He mentioned he has 3 songs in the bag for another release too which is cool. I must give 40 watt sun a go again, I hated it when it came out.
