Going to be biased towards some all time favourites here, and going for whole song rather than just one riff or initial impact or anything:

There's tons really.  Also honourable mention because every time I hear both of these they make me start laughing they are so heavy:

And always:

Quote from: Maggot Colony on July 03, 2026, 12:39:18 PMI can think of heavy breakdowns from slam dm bands but none are as effective as this snaking bastard riff.

Ah jaysus yeah sure where would you be without it

Quote from: keeper of kalessin on July 03, 2026, 08:50:01 AMThe full album is now out and streaming on all usual platforms. Apocalyptic Witchcraft have vinyls CD's and tapes. We'll have some with us at monkfest tomorrow and eventually online on our own bandcamp https://apocalypticwitchcraft.bandcamp.com/album/the-unbinding
That was great.  Looking forward to hearing a bit of it live tomorrow.

Been all over the place lately and haven't had much on but a few from the last few weeks that stood out:

Gospel - "The Moon is a Dead World"
Great album I come back to every few months.  Sort of post hardcore, sort of prog, spacey but to the point, lethal auld yoke.

Slift - "Fantasia"
Still at it.  Still great.  Another for the AOTY lists this year anymore definite it is faultless for me.

Fantomas - "Suspended Animation"
An all time favourite, back in rotation.  Wild, chaotic, but just savage.  I remember seeing the tour for this in the Village years ago and it is still one of my favourite gigs I ever saw.

Genghis Tron - "Signal Fire"
Great on the first couple of spins, plenty in here to dig into, will see if it holds up as well as the last album but this seems to have a bit more vigour about it anyway so far.

I had the new Warning album on once and I love it but have yet to go back to it for various reasons.

None of it matters anyway since it was proven that technically the best possible way of listening to music was through a CD played in the early runs of Playstations that still had the aux out on them (before they moved to scart and some other proprietary connector).  I am not even joking there is a write up on it online.  I think I even posted it here before somewhere.  Anyway it makes no odds

I know I was talking about not drinking there earlier but will also stress regularly because currently I'm a few cans and pinners in with the headphones on and a blanket of dog and cats and it is a real simple pleasure.  Cheers

Quote from: OpenSores on June 20, 2026, 05:33:30 PMAh it's a great album start to finish.
I have it back on again now for about the 50th time since it came out.  Unbelievably good.

Still plodding through The Plague.  It is actually very good but it is taking me years to get through for some reason.

Quote from: Bürggermeister on June 18, 2026, 09:46:36 PMChewy is the most underrated cunt alive. When Piggy died, we all thought Voivod would die with him. He not only brought the Piggy sound back, but he also brought the Chewy age, which is magnificent and deranged like Piggy, but also totally Voivod and totally Chewy. He doesn't get anywhere near enough credit for keeping a great band alive but also making his own mark while being authentic to the original sound of the (very unique) band too. Top man.
Yeah he was great the other night in Limerick.  Just full of joy, absolutely letting off these animal riffs, spot on playing.

Slift - "Fantasia"
On and off all week.  Savage savage album.  Better than Ilion and probably on par with Ummon.  Just savage songs, well put together, doesn't get boring, great energy, couldn't recommend it enough.

I've seen this many times and been watching it since the 90s, but it's been a decent few years since the last watch this time. Genuinely mindblowing how great it is on every level. The artwork, the story, the soundtrack, everything.

All the intro scenes of the bikers using the city as playground for violence put me in the mood to play Streets of Rage 2   I was also thinking while watching, it would be a great film to pair with Blade Runner in that '80s vision of what future decay would look like' kind of mould.
One of the best ever.  Savage film.  Keep meaning to read the manga as apparently there is tons of stuff cut to get to the point of the story but it works well as is regardless.

Quote from: Bürggermeister on June 15, 2026, 04:46:37 PMI'm currently trying to fix up an old Nad tape deck which hadn't seen daylight in a couple of decades. I love stripping down stuff like this, fettling, cleaning and reassembling. It's deeply satisfying. Just waiting on a new drive belt to arrive to see if it was all a big fucking waste of time, though
Meself and Astfgyl went halves years ago on a Tascam 4 track tape recorder and it is still mostly functional, just needs a big strip down and clean like this too.  I am mad to do it.  Must get it off him and do the same.  It had a nice and unusual compression on it and was fairly clean when it was in working order, I am curious about what various instruments sound like on it now that I have a clue what I am doing
