Quote from: Barnacle Billy on March 13, 2026, 08:00:58 PMFun fact: They took the name for the band from a misprinted label of the third Black Sabbath album, Master of Reality.
Never knew that, always assumed it was just a direct reference to the album!  Class band anyway, haven't heard an album I didn't like.

Quote from: Ducky on March 13, 2026, 07:53:07 PMMeshuggah - Obzen (this turned 18 years last week, Sheesh).
Jesus is Obzen really 18, fuckin hell, I remember getting a leak of it before release and making point of listening to it first with a good friend of mine in the middle of the day without knowing a note of it, in a student house in Milford Grange.  A memory that will live with me forever.  Desperately stoned and actually in stitches laughing at Bleed it was so ridiculous at the time.  I am putting it on today.

I really enjoyed Cut so am going back to some of the previous stuff for the craic. Very different animal on the early material. I've only ever dipped in and out of their extensive discography so I'm pulling albums at random. Good so far.
Radiance of Shadows is savage I only had it on again here recently.

Been in hiding from the internet for most of the week, haven't listened to much either, needed to turn the mind off.  But what was on:

Jesu - "Silver"
Can't ever get enough Jesu really.  Always great.

Killing Joke - "MMXII"
I absolutely lived in this album for about two years after it came out then just didn't put it on properly again.  Had it on the other night and it is still completely class.  Savage songs, pure KJ, big clanking unique riffs.  It's in regulation rotation again now.

Uncultivates - "This Will Become Clear Later, Like The French Revolution"
Cowboy Hardcore.  Great sport.  Vicious songs, straight into it.

Masters of Reality - "The Archer"
Totally class, didn't realise they released this last year until I stumbled across it last week or so.  Have listened to it to death since.  Just lush, laid back, catchy, solid music.

Some great stuff on there overall.  I've seen Coilguns before, "Millennials" is a savage album, highly recommended.  I am currently in a Coilguns tee

Neptunian Maximalism also class, semi-imrov mostly instrumental big band sludge sounds terrible on paper but I would love to see it live, last couple of releases were great.

Quote from: ochoill on February 26, 2026, 10:51:12 AMStarted Neuromancer the other day, had it on the shelf a while.  Already enjoying it, the writing is lush and - maybe because of how used to seeing the aesthetic we would be nowadays - the imagery vivid.

Neuromancer has one of the best opening lines of any book. Great description.

I loved Solaris, wasn't sure about Slaughterhouse Five, I must give it another look, it was one of my Dad's favourites.

Just coming back on this because I am still dragging my heels through Neuromancer.  I enjoy it while I am reading it but nothing particularly makes me want to pick it up now while I am in the middle section of the book.  First parts were great though.  Will finish it out.  Usually I only read one thing at a time but I've started into a few other bits alongside this just to get over the hump of it (which might equally just be my own mind as much as the book itself).

Quote from: Mooncat on March 13, 2026, 01:35:19 AMJust read Child of God by Cormac McCarthy. It's a pretty short book and a fast read. Kind of a combination of Blood Meridian and No Country For Old Men in a lot of ways. Really enjoyed it. His writing is just levels above most authors.
Yeah I loved Child of God, only read it last year.  Only one of his I struggled with so far is "All The Pretty Horses".  Didn't have the patience at the time, moved on to something else.

Quote from: ochoill on August 03, 2025, 06:37:59 AMFinally actually got a chance to listen to that this morning and it is deadly.  Can't wait for the full album.  Vocals are great on it, I must look for his version of Dirty Boy.  Will also try see them live if they are gigging.

Dirty Boy is on the setlist for this tour appparently. Seeing them Thursday. I am literally going to have to brace myself for it.

Fuck days later I come back and see this  well how good was it?

Great gig

I'd love to hear this sound given the full treatment on vinyl
Made for it

Spoilt for bands last night
Cheers for coming in for a look, good to chat to you briefly!

Class sport for the two nights, Limerick and Cork both deadly, class to get to see the other three bands for two nights straight they are deadly.  Molarbear and Partholón I have seen tons and they are always great, The Grey are top notch live too, had been listening to their last album lately and the songs off it come off great live.

Kasbah in Limerick was lethal, talking to everyone afterwards and the other bands went down great, everyone impressed.  First time ever being in or playing in the Dali in Cork, great venue, haven't played on the floor like that in years and I love it.  Sound great both nights, crowd great both nights.  I have post gig depression now lol

Yup!

DOORS: 8:30pm
Nilim: 8:45 - 9:15
Molarbear: 9:30 - 10pm
The Grey: 10:15 -11
Partholon: 11:15

Looking forward to this, Limerick was great sport last night.

Caught them in the Opium a few years back and in Limerick as well.  Had the pleasure of driving the lads from the train station to the gig that day   savage band, shame they are done live but given the surgery and everything it is understandable.  At least the music itself from all the projects is still going.

Would also see Jesu live again in a heartbeat, saw them with Isis in the temple bar years ago and they were lethal.

Air - "10,000 Hertz Legend"
An all time top 10/20 whatever album for me anyway.  Immaculate album.  Can't fault it in any way, master song writing and craft.

Aphex Twin - "Druqks"
Nothing to be said really.  Magnificent.  An album I have lived with and loved since it released.  Probably why I find it hard to find anything to describe it with but I would assume everyone here has came across it in one way or another over the years.  Another untouchable album.

The litmus test for any Rob Zombie album is: does anything on there equal or better Astro Creep OR Hellbilly Deluxe?

The answer is always no.  Forget about it.  Don't cod yourselves.  I won't listen to it to find out, no.

I did immediately put on a few choice cuts off both those albums though while thinking about it.

Weedpecker - "V"
Whole album is out since yesterday but I have the first two tracks listened to to death while they were streaming early.  Latter half of the album also totally savage.  Meticulous psych/stoner rock.  As good as it is on a first listen, it opens up more and more each time.  Have listened to almost nothing else in the last two days.  Have it on again while I am posting this  lethal stuff.

Looking forward to this now.  I know Partholón and Molarbear well anyway but also excited to see The Grey live, been listening to them the last few months and it's right up my alley.

I'm opening the Limerick and Cork dates if anyone fancies pointing and shouting at me.

Quote from: Eoin McLove on February 26, 2026, 10:57:50 AMEdit. I was thinking of Orbital. I've never read Solaris, but I'm not a sci fi nerd.
I don't read a ton of Sci Fi myself but enjoyed this a lot.  I would read anything really it wouldn't bother me but just never know where to start with Sci Fi outside of grabbing classics and going from there.  I saw Orbital in Easons the other day and went to pick it up based on this thread here but put it back to force myself to read what I already have on the shelf at home first
