Title: Hopes and expectations for 2020
Post by: nightlord on December 31, 2019, 03:03:41 PM
Are there any upcoming releases in 2020 there you are looking forward to or bands with albums in the works?

Don't know if either band have anything new in the works, but hoping for some new Tribulation and Dead Congregation.

Locally: looking forward to seeing what Incessant sound like in a studio. Also would like to hear something new from Malthusian, Destriers and Vircolac to see how the line up changes have influenced their respective sounds. New Unyielding Love and Horse are both due and I'm psyched for both of those.

Have my fingers crossed for a Decomposed reunion next year, there was a comment on instagram recently which seemed to kind of imply it was a possibility. I'd like to see Blood Incantation live again next year too.

New Faith No More might be nice but highly unlikely.

I'd like to see  a worldwide ban on any further Blasphemy live albums or reissues, and more bands that sound like "North From Here" era Sentenced or "Forest of Equilibrium" era Cathedral  too while I'm being unrealistic

2020 trend prediction: American Death metal will get dumber and lean more towards slam and "gutteral caveman" shite bands made up of former Straight Edge hardcore kids who want to mosh. Thanks again Maggot Stomp records for that.

The Vassafor and Temple Nightside albums that were meant to be out this year. Also, whatever Mystiskaos have planned, great label.

The new King Diamond has to finally come out next year

Gig wise I reckon the Testament/Exodus/Death Angel show is going to be great craic

Gig wise, I would love to see some of the Icelandic bands (Sinmara, Svartidaudi). Perhaps a trip to Ascension fest is called for.

Looking forward to the new Steven Wilson album but with a little nervousness about what direction it'll take - based on "Permanating" from the last album , and the latest No-Man "Love You To Bits" album.

Are Hell still going? It's seven years since Curse & Chapter was released, I'd love a surprise announcement that they'll get something out this year

Would love to hit Mercyful Fate or King Diamond in Europe.

Very much looking forward to the new Negative Plane album, the one new song played in Limerick sounded vicious.

Hoping to see one of Blood Incantation, Ascended Dead or Eternal Champion live.

Looking forward to see what Invictus, NWN, Iron Bonehead, Dark Descent, Ajna Offensive, Van Records have to offer. My limiting factor in all these things is cash of course!

What was the last great album from Iron Bonehead? They flood out so many new release emails I just don't pay attention any more.

House of Atreus - From the Madness of Ixiom I thought was great. The last Infernal Conjuration album is excellent Sadistic Intent/Shub Niggurath worship too.

The Blooming Carrions and VITRIOL eps were good, otherwise I can't stay I still pay attention either. I know they put out some band with Scythe in the name that was so generic it made me genuinely stop listening to death metal for about 6 weeks.

I'm eager to see what 20 Buck Spin put out this year - that label had an incredible run in 2019. Void Ceremony are up first who have been massively overlooked to date, so that's a fine start.

I hope for a new Coroner album, maybe something form Vektor and Living Colour would be nice too.

I expect disappointment.

There's a rumour going around that he's on his deathbed, but it's from an unreliable source so presumably bollocks.

I'd nearly put money on an official announcement of him having Alzheimer's or something before the summer.

Like every other year, I'm hoping we finally get the Divine Eve album this year, but I'm also fully aware it's probably never going to happen.

Yeah GBK is done but has been coming for a while and a new Argo album has been scheduled for release since the last split. Not getting my hopes until something definite is announced.

For gigs, just want more black metal goodness. The Redemption Fest is something to look forward to anyway. Need more gigs in the Grand Social too

A new GBK would be something else. But will believe it when I see it.

For me, a new VEMOD and a new NEGATIVE PLANE high on the wishlist. Been too long.

Also are Mourning Beloveth up to anything? Record overdue.

Cheers for the hype lad, that yank band was originally called Ring Nebula for some time, soon after we got the ball rolling with a few rehearsal clips tagged under the name Astral Tomb late last year they announced their name change. Weird coincidence.

A gig offer or two has come our way since that latest clip went up, so must keep you's posted on that.

Yeah a Dismember gig would be savage. Pretty annoying that everything bar 2 songs is gone from Spotify, my days of a Discman and a pocket full of CDs are long gone!

As previously mentioned, a new Dead Congregation would be class, Promulgation was one my albums of the decade.
Malokarpatans nee one already sounds good.
Cultes des Ghoules had a short gap between Coven and Sinister (arguably too short), but I'd like to hear an ep or something,  loved the last two.
Title: Re: Hopes and expectations for 2020
Post by: Tee on January 19, 2020, 07:09:01 PM
Never got into sinister, although Coven and Henbane are some of my favourites from the last decade. An ep would do well from CdG right enough. I'd love to see Bölzer playing their new material this year. New ba on the way so I'll not make it away to catch them.

I don't mind sinister, though admittedly I do skip the first track almost every time. Big step down from the previous 5 or 6 years of great stuff.
Sacreligias album was class last year, looking forward to seeing them live again, and Gealach were impressive too. Another ep or something from them would be appreciated. In general I'm looking forward to hearing more new irish stuff this year, and engaging more in the 'scene' locally. It's amazing what not working nights does for ones time.

Slidhr split 7 inch, The Ruins of Beverast / Mourning Beloveth split and from Terratur Possessions, some new Finnish band, plus the Drottinn demo tape. Drottinn is a new DM entity featuring Sturla from Svartidaudi and DG from Nadra, Skaphe and Misthyrming. Lots to look forward to.
