It is. Personally I rate The Sullen Sulcus as highly as Dust, but they're sonically very different, so it's easy to understand someone preferring one or the other.

I've probably spent more time with '...Circus' than any of their other ones so I'd have to say it's my default favourite.  As someone who's not in and out of studios or playing in bands  like a lot of ye I wouldn't notice mixes and productions all that much .Hell of a discography to choose from though.

Dust and Sullen Sulcus are dependent on the day a lot of the time for me but certainly my favourites. Revisiting AMC here. The production is weird enough but plenty of amazing moments. Without question my least listened to MB record and it has an overall colder, chuggier feel which maybe the reason I didn't go back to it as much but it's hitting now anyway so no harm, no foul.

MB have a new EP or album on the way and I'm really curious to hear it. The revamped line-up, combined with age and wisdom (?) will without doubt add some fresh elements to the band's sound. But, to be fair, the last ten years has seen them expand their musical world so much that they have really opened the door for whichever type of experimentation they may choose. I was listening to an old Metal Ireland podcast interview with Frank and Darren from when Rust & Bone came out and you can see at that time they had transcended the confines of Doom Death by then. I wonder now with Frank no longer playing the guitar, how the dynamic of songwriting might have shifted about. I have high hopes. I know the new guitarist is a mean shredder, and I've no doubt there will be tasty solos to be had- I just hope they maintain some kind of balance on that front.

I dunno i really hope that something good is on the way. After Formless , Dust and Bone was to me a step backwards,  ok it broadened their sound but I felt that apart from God ether there was really no exceptional songs on it . Saw them live a few years ago and they were a mess , singer was fucked up. Hope they turn it round and I will of course buy this

Ah no. I think that A Terrible Beauty Is Born is the real stand out track on that album. The two heavy songs are very good too. Maybe not quite amazing by their own standards, but they offered much to enjoy. That said, I do hope the next one is a step up. And that said, I'm equally curious to hear the new developments, which I'm sure will be evident.

Interesting. What's the current line up of the band these days? I haven't been checking any social media or anything so not up to date. I saw a while back Frank's not playing the guitar anymore which sucks. Really enjoyed the split they did with Ruins of Beverast(and just checked that was released 6 six years ago, yikes 😅). Looking forward to some new stuff!

Darren, Frank and Tim remain from the old guard. Pauric is still in on guitar and backing vocals. Barry White is the new guitarist who has taken over for Frank- Frank is now just doing vocals, but that might be purely in the live setting; I'm not sure what the writing dynamic is. Brendan, the bassist of many years, left in recent months and I haven't heard whether they have replaced him yet or not.

An unreal band albums 2, 3 and 4 in particular are superb. Formless is on its own planet. AMC I have always had such a soft spot for. I love the big drums Andy Mclove didn't in a comment a few years back in this thread  In fact I think Timmys drumming is an underappreciated element in their greatness. Such a natural style

I love Tim's drumming as well. They compliment the riffs perfectly. I had AMC on recently and really enjoyed it, but the ultra thin guitar production remains a little jarring. The songs themselves are great- The Crashing Wave might be one of their best songs.

There was mention of a new EP in the works, but all seems quiet on the western front...

strangely enough I met Barry at my brothers wedding there on Friday. He said they will be releasing a new EP. He didn't say when though.
