We get a mention around the 12 minute mark lads! We're a bunch of cunts  :-*

:abbath:

What a weird yet compelling interview. More than half of it is the interviewer probing Phil to prove that the festival is actually going to go ahead
I'm expecting Saxondale to be the stage manager at this.

You’ve got to contact them after you buy a €60-odd ticket to find out where the fucking thing is taking place? So many questions

I have it on good authority that the venue is being kept secret due to a surprise appearance from Arghoslent. Leitrim Antifa have eyes everywhere.

Best part is when he says PhilFest was the only fest he attempted to put on. As far as I know, there's been at least 3.

Finally we're getting a  bit of recognition for all our hard work on here!

Much preferred this show when there were 4 of them at a table drinking cans and making enthusiastic hand movements.

Been watching this saga closely since it was announced, I don't know his back story. Can anyone fill us in, pm or otherwise?
Play the Academy July 13th

As I recall it... he announced "Philfest" on the old MI forum, citing Knockanstockan as an inspiration as there had never been Metal festivals in Ireland*. The lineup included several thousand bands** and he was initially politely offered advice by people with experience in this kind of area (including the Siege lads) which he took umbrage at (as he knew better and still does, it appears) for not supporting the scene, lashed out at those who were genuinely trying to help him and, as a result, became a figure of fun due to his concept of how his festival would work which was not grounded in any kind of reality. He also wanted people who had disagreed with him or cracked a joke at his expense (and there were many) on the thread to let him know which bands they were in so their band could be excluded from the lineup - genuinely. Philfest, of course, never happened in this or any other dimension and everyone on MI was branded a nasty person with a hate-filled agenda for not supporting the scene and having fun at his expense when he decided he knew better. It's a shame CT killed the forum without letting the classic threads be exported as, really, there were some great reads in there and the Philfest thread was right up there with the best.

He came back with Sonic Circus which followed the same path of big dreams, big claims which were going to silence the doubters and critics and, of course, there was no actual event. There were also a few tales from people who had been at small gigs he tried to put on, the general gist of these was the gigs were a shambles with no organisation, sometimes no backline, sometimes even no venue booked on the date in question while Phil was having beer and congratulating himself for saving Irish Metal and the scene. Again, the old threads were very funny reading material and I do not do them justice at all.

There is a lot more, of course, but re-read this thread with that in mind and you should be largely up to speed.

* yes, I know
** exaggerated for dramatic effect but no too far from the truth as, in reality, there were far more bands on the bill than it would have been sane or possible to stage which would have been clear with even a few second's worth of logical thinking

Edit -> ah, I see someone posted the Philfest poster earlier. Look at it. Just fucking look at it. Imagine the logistics of that for just one second. Then, note the "and more"

Quick count is in excess of 120 acts on that poster alone. The big fest have 6 stages and 16 hours of music a day and have less bands than that and look at the army of crew they have. How did anyone ever think this was a good idea?

I can't believe some of the PhilFest bands are booked for iron mountain too! Maybe they're just doing it for the craic, I can't wait to see Phil's (and Mr. Clang too) recurring Facebook  post 'we have done everything in our power to save this and kEeP tHe ScENE alive'

Jesus what an undertaking!,imagine the stress of trying to pull that off! 120 PLUS bands!

More power if he does it but I wonder what length of set the bands will get? The poor auld stage crew will be broken
