Just giving another shout out to the new Depeche Mode. Getting better with each listen and it's the mock bluesy thing being gone that's doing the trick

I see Lankum are within shouting distance of having the number 1 album in Ireland this week (ahead of Lana Del Rey) if they sell a few more copies today. So, if you're back home and considering grabbing it and can do so today rather than a few days from now, sure do that like! :abbath:

A live Frames show came up on a Youtube deep dive the other night so I went on a nostalgia trip through their albums. Once you get past Hansard's faux humble smugness there's some great stuff there. Fitzcarraldo, Dance The Devil... and For The Birds, can't bate them. A wine-fuelled Discigs splurge followed, but 6 albums delivered for < €30 was alright.

Still digging the Depeche Mode album here it's in the CD player in the car so I dip in and out as I drive the kids to various Saturday things.

Ghosts Again has to be the most Depeche Mode song they've released since Violator.

Billy Idol - Rebel Yell on now since I'm back in the house. What a fucking class album, definitely his best

Just grabbed tickets for a gig in the French Basque country next February. Long ways to wait, but all going well, another much-listened band to tick off the live list!

This was recommended to me over the weekend and I've been enjoying it a lot since. Clarinet-centered folk, predominantly Jewish in tone but with splashes of jangly and even classic rock in places. All instrumental, beautiful sounds for reading/writing work. Going to be exploring more of his fairly vast discography during the week now.

Anyone go down the Ren rabbit hole yet? Hard to describe him. Unreal talented. Part bard and part rapper. If you check him out do them in the below order. Last 3 are his rap stuff. And watch the videos cause they're fucking insane.

Hi Ren
Chalk Outlines.
The tale of jenny and screech and violet full.
The Hunger.
Money Game Pt1 & Pt2.
Losing It.

Listening to Never Loved Elvis by the Wonder Stuff in work, slowly talking myself into buying a ticket to see them on their home turf in Birmingham in December. It's a terrific album. Really varied and (whisper it) life affirming. I had the weird distinction of maybe being the only primary school feen in Cork who had them as his favourite band, because my aunt used to mind me and instead of watching cartoons I'd chuck on her tapes of them.

They get lumped in with stuff like Ned's Atomic Dustbin and the general malaise of British guitar music when Nirvana were doing their thing, but they always done top albums.

Up the greebos

New Chelsea Wolfe album out in February, first track sounds like a cross between Portishead, Gazelle Twin and Author & Punisher. Not sure I'm a fan:

That description sounds amazing. I'll give it ago.

Her vocals are the weakest link. I think I'm happy with Abyss. Haven't been arsed with anything since.

Abyss is my favourite CW album too, Hiss/Spun is great for most of the album but there's a good lot of filler on it.  Will give the new track a listen shortly anyway.

Apokalypsis and Hiss Spun would be the ones for me. Nicely bleak.

Did Hiss/Spun have the track with the Converge singer? Album ruiner right there.

Aaron Turner from Isis was on that one. Vex was the song.
