I think they have a lot of inherently dark stuff. Also when you strip back some of the world music elements the songs share a fair bit with elements of metal. They have always had a cool aesthetic too. And as popular as they are, they're miles away from pop, which is a trait I think metal fans can appreciate.

Speaking of Dead Can Dance, I see they've announced 2 dates in April for the Olympia. I wonder if the 2 dates mean that they're anticipating reduced capacity, social distancing etc.? I can't see gigs going ahead that soon without some such measures taken.
Tickets sorted for the Friday night. Thanks for the heads up pal. XXxX

Same as, the Friday night. Tickets went on sale early, they were advertised for 10AM. Just as well that I checked.

Scratch that, just saw that it was 10AM CET. My bad.

Nabbed tickets myself. Thanks for the heads up folks. I wonder do DCD play older material live or do they tend to stick to the recent release? Concerts from the anastasis era seem to the latter.

On the Anastasis tour they played the whole album (though not in sequence), mixed with older material. The previous time I saw them (2005), it was obviously all older material but it was a good mixture of stuff. They're not playing anything from Dionysus so I'd imagine it'd be a similar situation to the Anastasis tour. As far as I'm concerned they have no bad material so it's a win-win situation for me either way.

BP's vocals on Anastasis sound remarkably like John Grant. Just saying.

Any idea how many tickets were or are on sale? I'd be incredibly pessimistic for the gigs.

No idea, but the fact that there are double dates for a lot of cities has me wondering whether they might be planning for socially distanced, reduced capacity attendance, if that's feasible. Then again, I'd imagine tickets would have been more expensive, if so.

Yeah, tough to see it happening in April. But I'm taking it that its at least a commitment to play, and if not in 6 months then maybe in 18 months. I can wait a bit longer having never seen them before anyway.

I got into the band around the release of Anastasis. Can't remember what the stimulus was then but it's taken up to the past year for me to get seriously serious about this band, picking up just the odd thing in between.

It's all beyond sublime and when contemplating it's effect on me while listening to it I envisaged some journey through lakes and mountains towards heaven with DCD as the soundtrack. That obviously does not translate very well in forum text but the feeling was profound!

One massive downside of DCD is that 99.9% of your collection seems shallow, unskilled and short-sighted after. You start looking for a bit of class and finesse in all the wrong places!

Daemonia Nymphe are a band I often turn to after getting through the DCD discography, if you're looking for more class and finesse :)

Never heard them but stuck on a few songs there and it sounds great. Right up my street. Thanks Chris

Never heard of Daemonia Nymphe, but will check it out now due to the comparison. The closest band to DCD I ever came across was IRFAN from Bulgaria, which are clearly influenced by DCD music, and they're incredibly good.

It's not so much that they're alike (though there are similarities), but as Grim Reality said above, it can be difficult to think of something that makes the grade after listening to DCD; Daemonia Nymphe do the job perfectly for me.

Probably belongs in the live videos thread, but as we're on the subject of DCD, this is a great (if short) set from a few years ago:
