I actually saw a few clips on twitter of their Electric Picnic set and some ppeople saying despite the big crowd there was only a reaction for one of two singles and the usual 'i like all kinds of music' people in GAA jerseys had the phones straight out to record. They are the people who will ensure Slane sells out.

Ive never been to Slane, regardless of whos playing; I dont think ive the fight in me anymore for dealing with the logistics of it all!

Nice to see a relatively young band headline Slane, probably will sell out with the line up; also the Slane factor alone. I started out in BIMM around the time they released their first few singles, seem to be a snidey attitude towards them here at the time. Feel the UK press may have even been more positive to them, if I remember correctly. Anyway good to see them having a real moment

I don't think I've ever heard anyone describe them as the spiritual heirs to the U2 throne tbh...

I think this is fantastic lads. I have a soft spot for Fontaines for the past few years. Their debut is a cracker and Skinty Fia is absolutely stunning. Romance is alot poppier but I like it too.
New album seems more electronics vibe to it . Definitely going to this,  with bells on , saw them in Belfast last year too. Always good live.
Edit this will sell out too , quickly

Like them or not it's excellent seeing an Irish actual band get to headline Slane. Pretty sure they have a new album out over the next while so their popularity will grow even more. I don't really have much of an opinion on them myself and haven't been ARSED going to a gig in Slane castle for quite some time but still delighted to see this happening and long may it last

The problem I have with Fountaines DC is the same problem I have with all those kinds of bands - from the opening bass notes on any song I've heard its obvious Joy Division worship, just makes me want to listen to JD.

Ah i dunno,  Fontaines sound has evolved over 4 albums , think they have a pretty unique ish sound. If anything I hear more Depeche mode, Cure at times.

Fontaines are on of those bands that make me feel like we are in a matrix. There is a lot of big bands I don't like but get, few years ago the rap on fontaines was all their fans were over 40 and nobody young liked them, how they flipped that narrative I dont know, but they are one of those bands that shouldn't be headlining a thursday at fibbers, an English lad doing a parody of a dublin voice and gets a pass on it

And if you see interviews with them, there is a reason they do so few, thick as shit

An English lad ? He was born there and moved to Ireland after a few weeks ,ffs. Clown

When was that the narrative? They've been massively popular with a "young" audience forever. I don't like them, I find their schtick terrible, there are countless other Irish bands I'd put above them, but the refusal to accept a) their popularity, b) their worthiness of a headline slot at Slane, c) their global appeal is truly, truly baffling. This is a success for Irish music, but somehow it is the wrong band with the wrong audience. Listen to yourselves, you soggy aul bastards, there's clouds outside that need shouting at.

It was all their fans were over 40, and it was true especially during dogrel era

This is one of the things that seemed to get changed after the fact, use to be he moved over here when he was 12, then he start saying in interviews after a month

The accent is a parody though, he was in numerous other bands and is on his 3rd or 4th voice, was in an emo band like and one band that was like wannabe strokes, its grand it just makes what he is at now a lot more obviously fake
