Seen SOAD a month ago. They were bloody amazing, was in the pit the whole show. Great craic...
Saw them 25 years ago too, and they were great then too...

I'd put SOAD as easily the worst band to ever make it "mainstream big" in Metal.

Can't think of a worse band that's had the recognition they've had. While I'm no fan of Limp Bizkit or Slipknot - I can see the virtue in their music and their playing - SOAD, nothing worthwhile, some of the absolute worst music I've ever heard, annoyingly bad - awful playing, worse tunes.

FNM opening for them is a travesty.

Anyone read Roddy Bottum's book? While an interesting read in some respects, at time it read like he wasn't even really in band and was more just a friend of Courtney Love's... I get that it's his Bio and not an FNM book - but the way he glosses over band members - "our guitar player..." etc. just seems a bit weird. Good as an insight into alternative lifestyles and some of the earliest days in FNM - but not great as musicians bio.

I'll be chuckling at this for days; cheers! The "virtue" of Limp Bizkit's music

  Ah even the Bizkit had a couple of riffs to their name. Tune the rest of it out and it's far less objectionable

Otto, Borland and Rivers are savage musicians.

Nothing going on at all in SOAD.

The first SOAD is savage. Or was in 98 anyway! I think they had heaps going for them on that album. Toxicity was meh and I stopped paying attention after that. I do agree that it seems bizarre to have FNM as support to SOAD, and not the other way around. Then again, Faith No More haven't been huge since the early 90s so...

I thought that when it dropped. Listen to it now.

Lyrics especially are toe curling. "Dial up the whackiness lads"

Dude, you're defending Limp Bizkit. You couldn't be in a more fragile glasshouse when it comes to lyrics especially

With ya 100%. I can think of no other band, that make my skin crawl in utter disgust and cringe to the same degree as system of a down. Its hard to describe the effect they have on me. Alot of music Im not into just invokes apathy, SOAD though, sheer full body revulsion. Despite my extremely dubious taste growing up, they disgusted me at the time too

Nothing could be clearer to me than why many metallers did and would absolutely despise SOAD. But seriously, if you're going to try and come up with arguments to try to prove that some of their mainstream metal peers were better on some kind of objective genuinely artistic grounds then that could only possibly produce hilarious results. So please, please, please... do carry on!
