Of the sparse bits I've skimmed through, any critique seems to be: "I don't like this iconic part because it's shit and other bands do it better".

No that's it.

Good strike by the op to get us all disgruntled though

A silly thread about a silly review of a classic album designed to irritate people. Giving it zero? Silliness.

^ and yet I can't resist getting annoyed :D

I have read some stupid shit in my time but fucking hell that takes the biscuit

I remember once Metal Hammer (I think) had an article on the 20 most overrated albums of all time, must dig it out somewhere as even at the time it was a complete troll

gone down the rabbit hole of reading all his reviews now...top class afternoon

Cursory glance at this lad's reviews and he's given Covenant a fairly miserly 48% so it's fair to say he's full of shit.
The merest mention of Metallica these days puts me in a bad mood but MOP is untouchable. And of course, it's all subjective really and there's plenty of classic albums I don't either get or particularly like. But that review is, as said, just silliness.

I remember when the black album came out Metal hammer,  possibly Chris Welch, gave it 3/5 he back tracked on that pretty soon and gave it 5. I think 3/5 is pretty accurate,  but MOP is a fucking gem.

Not to side track the thread but what reviewers did people follow back in the day? For me if Jerry Ewing or Dave Reynolds gave something the thumbs up I bought it with no hesitation if I had the dosh.

There was a guy in Metal hammer I liked John Duke I think was his name.

James Sherry was another he liked his punk and hardcore for sure but very good,  can't remember what mag

What's with all this talk of metal journalism all of a sudden?

Does giving classic albums 0/100 on Metal Archives qualify as journalism?

Nope, but it is a bloody good advert for contraception.

I meant the other thread about websites/blogs, and this is going into a list of MH writers people like. Just curious

Or chronic virginity, which is kind of the same thing.
