Tried the first Crip A album and found it painful. Crippling so.

Holy fuck, The Stooges

I've heard them before here and there but over the weekend was the click moment. They are blowing my mind! Funhouse and Raw Power on endless repeat. Untouchable!

Haha yep. I think that whatever ingredients make it initially interesting quickly become a bit overbearing.

I'm going to have to test this now on my break

Quote from: Carnage on March 14, 2024, 10:43:10 AMNever heard Unwound before (heard of them alright), listening to Leaves... now. 3 tracks in and it's great stuff, good shout lads.
Booked a whole trip to England around seeing them in Leeds, and just read they've had to postpone the tour (presumably because of Sara Lunds health)..bummed.

Young Gods are playing Leeds that night though so that's a silver lining!

I'd love to see The Young Gods once. It's been decades since they released anything I liked but live - I'd love that.

Suede - Sci-Fi Lullabies

A great compilation of Suede's B-sides which are as good as the A-sides.

A very underrated band - they had an edge that was missing in the lad rock shite that was more popular at the time.

Dead Can Dance - Wake

Fantastic collection, particularly the first disc. Some of Gerrard's tribal warbling on the later tracks can be a bit tiresome but overall a brilliant compilation.

Completely forgot about the new one, it's excellent, agree with it being in a similar vein as Only Heaven.

Agree on all counts here. Must give that Suede b-sides jobby a go. Saw them recently described as one of Britpop's "Big Four" and all I could think was fuck off, they're leagues ahead of the other fellas. I'd definitely put Stay Together as one of my desert island tunes.

Wake was my first DCD purchase due to the sheer number of bangers and being a young fella on a budget.

DCD are flawless, never recorded a bad note. I've been lucky enough to have seen them live twice and, as good as they are on record, live they're on a different level.

Yulunga, Cantara, The Host Of Seraphim - nothing better.

The s/t 3CD compilation is what you need if you're dipping a toe in, (Wake is essentially a 2 disc version of it) but you can't go wrong with any of their albums.

Re: The Young Gods - TV Sky is their peak for me, I'd love to have seen them then. I haven't heard the most recent album, I thought Data Mirage Tangram was poor enough so gave up on them. Only Heaven did nothing for me at the time TBH.

Man, the older I get, the better Suedes early stuff sounds. Thought they were shit as a kid but the first 2 lps are great.

Suede were dismissed as glam rock fairies, but they had a lot more originality and bite in their sound than they were given credit for. There was a seediness to them that I always found intriguing whereas the rest of the Britpop bands were dull as fuck (apart from Elastica who were great).

I rate Coming Up as well. It's like a seedy version of T Rex.
