I remember hearing stories about how Gira would attack audience members if they were just standing around and not react8ng to the music, either positively or negatively. God forbid you'd have your arms folded at a show!

There's a recent book on them that's great, covers everything in great detail. Every surviving member of the band and a lot of people they interacted with, toured with, family, friends, etc. over the years are interviewed:

Swans: Sacrifice And Transcendence: The Oral History by Nick Soulsby

I cannot recommend it highly enough, it's as much a Gira biography as a Swans history but it's the best music bio I've read. Also watch the Where Does A Body End documentary if you haven't already, great stuff.

NP: Michael Gira: Drainland

Never heard Drainland afaik. Might have thrown it on at some stage from here but can't honestly remember. Is it much different to Swans?

In places. It flits in and out of their early-to-mid-'90s sound, the last track could even fit onto The Burning World. It came as a bonus disc with the latest reissue of The Great Annihilator and fits well alongside it. You wouldn't be surprised by anything on it, put it that way.

It's that smashing time of the week where a few (well, a lot) of tunes get consumed with some merlot.

Tonigt is the first four Camel albums.

If I recall at least one song from Drainland (I'm not as familiar with it as you'd think  ) was rerecorded for Soundtracks.

I See Them All Lined Up, which was previously released on Die Tür Ist Zu (sung in German) as Ich Sehe Die Alle In Einer Reihe.

My Danny Gatton phase has led me to the Stray Cats, and a bit of rockabilly in general. What is happening. Is this middle age?

Just in the last few weeks funnily enough, the rockabilly trail led me there. I don't like him as much as Danny Gatton, but he's an absolute technical monster. Must be one of the most technically accomplished guitarists in history. I guess I'd say he's like the Michal Angelo Batio of country guitar lol, for both the good and the bad points.

This is great:

Another MacDiarmada brother and featuring the same picture as used for Vircolac - Veneration.

Swans - Children of God

I own a load of Swans albums, but have somehow never heard this one. Bought the CD in Tower yonks ago but never got around to listening to it until now. Fucking brilliant.
