Very sad to see this. I know there's a lot of people in the No Max, No Sepultura camp but for me they've been one of the most consistent bands there is. Quadra was such a career highlight and I think they have remained one of the best live bands there is.

They'll go off and do something else for a couple of years before we see the proper reunion. No great loss (the Green era stuff is generally mediocre IMO) and sure the Cavalera boys are effectively the Sepultura most people want to see anyway.

They are playing Dublin and Belfast the 9th and 10th of November with Obituary supporting. It hasn't been Sepultura for almost 3 decades now anyway.

Shit buzz. Big fan of the Greene era, after an admittedly ropey start. One of the very few bands from that era who remained innovative and interesting. I genuinely hope they don't cash-in in a few years with Max, who's been pedalling shite for a lot longer than he was ever good. Quadra is a fucking beast of an album to sign off with.

Yeah, their output since Dante had been great, and then really kicked it up a notch with Casagrande joining

I couldn't give a fuck about a reunion with Max, he's basically made a career out of joining up with superior guitarists and trying to take the credit. Left to his own he ended up with the shite of the first few Soulfly albums and Roots, and didn't start to improve until Rizzo came in. Plus he's a lazy cunt live, so any hypothetical reunion would rely on Kisser to carry him

Soulfly remain the only band that I've managed to see for free and still manage to feel ripped off! Seeing someone who resembles the trash heap from Fraggle Rock play air guitar above his real guitar was such a low point. Knowing he once played on Beneath The Remains and Arise made it even worse.

Sepultura on the other hand have played immense gigs in recent years and the latest lineup boasts the best drummer in metal today. They weren't a nostalgia act either and had such quality material on the later albums.

There won't be a reunion of the 'classic' lineup, it wouldn't work the way it did originally and would probably be a mess (personally and professionally). As for the Derrick Green era it went on surprisingly long so kudos there, liked 'Dante' but haven't really investigated further.

Any reason why they're calling it a day? When you see older bands are just coming up to an end, you'd think these guys could get a bit more milage.

The very last show in Brazil has bound to have the Caverlas at it, surely?

With all the bad blood? Doubt it, but I wouldn't be surprised if ten minutes after that show ends, Max announces the following Cavalera tour will be renamed as a Sepultura tour.

I'm sure they can put things aside long enough if the dough is good enough   ::)

Apparently they've been offered some pretty lucrative reunion gigs before and turned them down. I can't see it ever happening, especially with Max's headcase of a wife around

There'll be no reunion with these lads. As many have pointed out, Max is a fucking joke. Soulfly easily one of the worst bands I've ever witnessed live.

They've never quite put out a classic post departure of Max but they've made some incredible and challenging music since then. Some great records in the mix there,Dante, Quadra, Mediator and even A-Lex has become a favourite, I think they just need more time to digest. Such a tight band live too!

Interesting point re the brothers reclaiming the name. I could well see that happening.

I don't get this ropey start thing at all. Against is my favourite of the
Greene stuff. Now i did see a reissue of Against lately in golden discs and the flash said something like "The Classic Debut" and i thought that was a bit much given the fact it doesn't seem to be generally regarded at all. The next couple were not great actually tbf, Roorback being particularly poor.

A-Lex is decent and Dante as well. Haven't kept up with the later stuff really though.

Wonder what Greene will get up to next, he's a good vocalist to be fair to him

I wouldn't see that happening at all re the brothers turning up for the final show but the name thing is surely a strong possibility. Of course they'd be awful but look at Pantera, there's still going to be interest for gigs
