"I have never been so angry in my life"

Quote from: Eoin McLove on October 09, 2026, 10:28:50 AMI remember being somewhat taken aback by the lyrics when it came out, but it's a fucking great song and I've sung along to worse

I didn't know it was being held hostage by, presumably you mean Season of Mist. I'd love a vinyl version with original ugly artwork.

Sorry yeah I meant SOM! It's the best album to come from Ireland if you ask me, an LP release would rule.

It's utterly fucking evil. A masterpiece.

Pretty sure Scobes looked into doing it but SOM were an issue. This may make it easier  Def up there in the very best Irish metal albums for me as well.

Quote from: open face surgery on October 09, 2026, 10:15:09 AM:laugh: Oh, the humanity. There's one fella trying to talk a bit of sense but the rest is painful. Great song, shit lyrics. Next.

Yer man who is 'best friends with Benediction' made sure Gaahl is in his profile pic as well and seems to think people would be afraid to say anything to him. Whole thing is pitiful.
I think the fella trying to talk sense of it is the singer from winterfyleth

Earlier today the young lad was asking me about Whitesnake and what albums to check out.

I welled up a little!  🥹

I see Tobias Forge has resurrected Repugnant for a song on the new 'VHS' film - with Erik Danielsson of Watain on vocals.

Song is a re-recording from Epitome of Darkness, wonder if they've anything new in the works.

Vocals were so much better on the original.

That Abaddon FB post was some pretty good cognitive dissonance. That brand of online performance has reached the point of being utterly off-putting almost no matter what the topic is. But at the same time, the lyrics genuinely are repulsive  I wonder if it will blow up at all. The pitchfork mob will neither know or care that it was 30yrs ago.

Yer man Geordie Greep (formerly of Black Midi) was doing a show in Vancouver a couple of days ago. Some guy was passing out flyers at the show saying "Geordie Greep is a RAPIST". Apparently he tried to kiss some girl the night before at a party and it was unwelcome. There are conflicting stories that she may have been asleep at the time, which obviously is an entirely different situation. Definitely sexual assault if that is true, though not exactly rape. Of course the usual FB hysteria has absolutely exploded over it over here and again, even in a situation where you can agree it's definitely wrong, the social media blowup and all the performance is infuriating.

Can you screen grab the AI statement and lob it up here? I'm not on Facebook so can't read it.

For some annoying reason my screen grab has stopped working, but here's the text of the post (also confused me for a moment with AI, i was like huh? Did someone say somewhere it was made by AI??):

"I don't normally get upset over Death Metal Lyrics and but I got tagged into a post about a band who played with some of my best friends Benediction in Dublin last week
I known the Benediction guys going on 40 years and they did not have a clue about the support band and no way they would have shared the stage with this support band had they known.
But the promoter who booked them needs to know that this does not fly and is unacceptable
The band was Abaddon Incarnate
They have a song called Verithrax
Ive never been so angry about a song in my life
This is not some edgy horror death metal lyrics this is full on homophobic hate so far beyond what is acceptable
They need to be removed from the metal scene and never again be allowed share a stage with any band !!!"

The post also includes pics that include the lyrics.

Ah, I thought it was a reply from Abaddon that you were referring to. They find themselves in a strange position here. They released that song 27 years ago to an underground scene which was, at the time, actually underground. It was a bubble that practically didn't exist unless you were in the know, and played by different rules. The lyrics are full on, no doubt about it, but coming off the back of a 90s death and black metal scene that were known for making strong antisocial statements, there was nothing particularly noteworthy about that. The idea was to be extreme and to be repellent to a public who were not in the know. A public who would never have even suspected that they existed in the first place.

Now with social media anything you write or do or say can be brought to the public for a bit of shaming, even if it's ancient news. The lads have distanced themselves from that over the past decades by moving into the grind scene and aligning with more of a punk audience. I'm sure the lads can put up an explanation if they feel the need but without endlessly apologising for past sins, no doubt it'll land on deaf ears.

I think, once again, what makes it most ironic is that episode where Abaddon made a big hoo-ha about not wanting to play with a BDSM-theatrics group. That was fucking years ago now, but as I said at the time, the only avenue that would allow them to even attempt to take that kind of moral high ground with respect to anyone else would be to drop the Abaddon Incarnate band name and disown things like the Vermithrax lyrics and 'Soundtrack to Rape' t-shirts. But since then, irony of ironies, Steve (who I presume wrote the Vermithrax lyrics..?) has indeed left AI and so can himself easier distance himself from that legacy than Bill and the lads can!

The latest below from the guy who kicked it off. I would have thought it was up to Seasons of Mist about the song being available for streaming, not the band?

>>>>
I've had a few messages from supporters of the band Abaddon Incarnate

And how they are not homophobic now, and the song has not been played live in 26 years plus it was written by a ex member

The excuse above I can not accept for the reason below-

Firstly the band disappeared from the scene a long time ago after being called out for it !

So they left the scene when streaming was still only small but then over that time uploaded that song onto all of the bands streaming sites and left it up

Secondly streaming sites only in the last few years have been putting up lyrics to songs,so in the last few years they signed off having the lyrics of that song published on the sites.

The band have had years to scrub that song from all platforms but they chose to not to do that and then added lyrics

The band can state all they want that they do not play this song live,
but it being available to hear in the bands catalogue is enough that I call them out for it.

They have chose to make it available,so them stating it's by an old member or whatever is just a shit excuse that I can not except.

This song was a direct attack on anyone that is LGBTQ and it's been very much available for that 26 years

I have read past interviews of them trying to distance themselves but in no interview have they stated that they are sorry for writing or releasing that song in fact they state the song it's self was meant to piss people off and it did that

Their words not mine

So by doing the above they are just as guilty as the ex member for this song and it's availability

The lyrics of this song are and always will be disgusting and still being available is truly disturbing

I'm all for people learning from past mistakes and changing but in this situation I can not accept that over 26 years this song was not removed completely by the band,

That is the reason I call them out now for it and stand by everything I've written in my posts
