They're quite tastefully done but I mean, what are ya gonna do with all that shit. I'd imagine for those who haven't lived through those albums then these will be very attractive but the rest of us will shrug now but smile maybe when a clued in relative gifts you one at Christmas.

I predict this format bombing worse than minidisc.

It's imported from Korea I think, the K-pop kids go mad for a gimmick. It seems utterly pointless when you have to use an app on your phone to play it, why not just download it in the first place and avoid stocking up on landfill? (Yes, there's an argument that all physical formats are future rubbish anyway but this shite seems especially wasteful).

I didn't even look into that much, I thought it was a cd with a load of bells and whistles, now you're talking apps and whatnot I'm away to find my pipe and slippers

Have you not got the K-pipe app, man?? Game changer.

I don't know how it actually works, I mean does it come with a code that you input to download/play it? Do you need to connect with the 'cartridge' via bluetooth in order to stream it? Just seems nonsensical.

Jesus Christ I can't even connect with that last sentence

Presumably it means something to young people. I am a sucker for nice packaging, and a few little extras can be nice but generally I'm just happy with the basics and a nice tshirt. And did someone say a cup of tea? Well if you're having one yourself then I won't say no.

QuoteHead of Label at Earache Tim Bailey explains what drove him to champion the format:

"It can be overwhelming with the world of digital music at your fingertips. The endless choice available means I rarely immerse myself in albums the way I used to. I flit between albums. I'm impatient. My attention span is broken. I rarely give new records my full attention.

Skill issue. Find the album you want, press play, don't touch your device again until its played through.

Guess this handicap didn't come up in the interview.
