I'm listening to Göetia by Mystifier, drinking a few cans and reading the lyrics, which I haven't done in years. Reading lyrics that is... While reading along to The Sign of the Unholy Cross I noticed that the singer, while singing in Metal-Engrish, is pronouncing the words with a pronounced German accent. I never picked up on that detail before. No doubt it's the influence of Sodom, Kreator and Destruction. He must have learnt his English from listening and reading along to old German thrash records.

Any other interesting and dorky anomalies you've picked up on in metal albums?

Edit.  I'm listening to the song The True Story About Dr. Faust's Pact With Mephistopheles, and I'm struck by the similarity between Asmoodeeus and Mark of the Devil from Cultes des Ghoules.

I had The Great Southern Trendkill on today for the first time in, it must be decades. A couple of things jumped out at me that weren't apparent to my teenage ears. The lead solo in Suicide Note Pt.2 sounds completely chaotic and nutty, and quite quirky by Dime's usual standard, and it struck me how much it sounds influenced by Trey Azagthoth. I don't know if Trey directly influenced Dime as Dime didn't seem to be a big fan of really extreme stuff like Phil was/is, but you never know. Then there's a big doomy riff in Sandblasted Skin that sounds really like Black Sabbath via Type O Negative. Again, I never made those associations before.

Had given TGST around a decade off at one stage but when I threw it back on it had aged very well and I noticed a load of things I hadn't before too. Great album

Yeah I enjoyed it immensely. Might be their best after Cowboys in retrospect.

Haven't listened to it in decades, hated it then. Might be worth trying again.

Reinventing The Steel is definitely a big pile of shite though.

GSTK is not only the best Pantera album for me but one of my all time favourite albums. Seeing Pantera in Prague tonight and I cannot wait.

Cool man. I only saw them the once in 92. I think Zakk is a shit choice to replace Dime but I'll still go see them if they hit Oz. Enjoy.

Cheers. Yeah I was too young to ever see the original lineup and I agree I have no interest in Black Label Society or anything Zakk is involved with. For me once Phil shows up i'll be more than happy.

Seen talk of places that were missed this year happening next year like England so probably Ireland, Oz, NZ etc. as well.

Alan Averill on his podcast said he was in the thanks list on some early Cannibal Corpse records, but didn't really elaborate how that came about about, I know he's in the scene years and seems to know everybody but I thought that was a pretty bizarre connection.

I missed that. I must look at the old Cannibal tapes and as if I can find him.

Don't remember the Cannibal Corpse shout out but the first time I remember seeing Alan in a thanks list was the Pseudostratiffied Epithelium Sodomizing Children Corpses demo around '93 or '94
Chlanna Nan Con Thigibh A So's Gheibh Sibh Feoil

I don't know how to embed a photo (I don't even know if "embed a photo" makes any sense) but I just had a look at the thanks list of Tomb of the Mutilated and, yep, Alan is thanked. I also saw Jason Newstead mentioned.

I don't follow or listen to Ghost so not sure how common knowledge this is but I read today, Tobias had originally asked Messiah and Mats Levén of candlemass, JB of Grand Magus and probably the most random one to me, Christer Göransson of Mindless Sinner (?!?) to be the vocalists of Ghost and they all turned it down so Tobias did vocals by default. I'd say they're kicking themselves now, would have been a serious pay day.

Also reading about this reminded of something, does anyone remember that guy on NWN that guy that pissed on his Elizabeth 7" and then set it on fire in his garden. That thing would have been worth a fortune now I reckon.

I remember the 7" burning. What a muppet.

I never heard about they other singers being asked to be in Ghost though. That's interesting.

I knew that he never really wanted to be the singer for Ghost but didn't know he specifically had people in mind. I do have a soft spot for them, even if they're very inconsistent, the debut and Meliora are great. Oddly enough, for the amount of shite people throw at them for not being 'metal' enough, they're probably the only mainstream metal band ever that never denied, or felt embarrassed about being a metal band, you'll never hear him deny metal influences like every other metal band to hit the mainstream at some point or another.
