Overcrowded prisons is the first hurdle that needs to be dealt with. Under no circumstances should someone accrue 100+ convictions. I'm all for diversion programs etc after the first 1 or maybe 2 offences but let's be real here, these yobs are very unlikely to be "diverted". It's idealistic and unrealistic to believe so.

I see it everyday. Little Johnny is a harmless darling. Except he's not, not even in the slightest and now he has caused the death of someone.

To be fair, I think it's pretty obvious what any reasonable person means when they associate 'low IQ' with deliberately driving a stolen vehicle down the wrong side of a motorway into oncoming traffic. It's not an invitation to a wider discourse about the merits of IQ as a reliable indicator of intelligence. People are perfectly entitled to feel outraged by this without having to keep their language in check.

One of the dead was only 15 though, most only 17. I don't disagree with that either. And while I believe much of that grief is genuine, there's also that element of "sleep with the angles, wouldn't hurt a fly, lovely fella", accompanied by a funeral cortege of scramblers, floral arrangements in the shape of a balaclava and screwdriver-type sentiment that undoubtedly rubs people up the wrong way. Their friends and families can mourn in their own way, without expecting public sympathy. And if they want to put up glowing, public tributes, which they have already, they should expect a typically vocal backlash.

I personally can't drum up too much sympathy for them or their families. They were well on their way to becoming career criminals and had their respective communities terrorised. The behaviour on the night in question was also utterly reckless, with seemingly zero thought given to anyone else's safety.

The people who deserve sympathy — or prayers, if that's your inclination — are the innocent family who simply set out on a journey to the airport and will most likely be affected permanently by the injuries they suffered.

Teenage tomfoolery doesn't come into play here.

I'm sure the boys' families are absolutely devastated, and I can understand that they are grieving. But the nature of some of what is being posted, particularly the apparent lack of empathy towards the victims and their family, makes it very difficult for me to feel much sympathy myself.

Ultimately, these were dangerous young people whose behaviour had already had a serious impact on those around them. And if the reports about their wider behaviour are accurate, it raises an uncomfortable question: can you imagine living in the vicinity of families caught up in this kind of behaviour? Or having your own children attend the same school?

Would you feel comfortable challenging the kids, or their parents, if something happened?

I think, realistically, we all know the answer to that.

On the 08th of July in Carlow Town, one of our own, Jackson Singh, was involved in a devastating accident when a black Ford Ranger pick-up truck stolen by four youths mowed him down when he was waiting for traffic lights to go green.

The pick up truck failed to stop for the police and fled the scene of the collision. In a matter of moments, Jackson's life and the life of this wife and their young daugther has been turned upside down. What should have been an ordinary day became the start of an unimaginable fight for survival, and recovery.

Jackson was advised he survived due to wearing full protective motorbike gear. He catastrophic injuries and will remain in hospital for a minimum of 8-12 weeks. He is facing a long and difficult road ahead.

Jackson and his family have already endured tremendous pain, emergency medical care, and the emotional trauma that comes with such a senseless act. As they focus on healing, they are also facing amounting loss of income during this recovery period.

No one should have to go through something like this alone. We in the biking community are raising funds to help a fellow biker.

Anyone seen this? There's footage on Reddit. The Ford vehicle stolen from Saggart/Rathcoole. Ran over a motorcyclist waiting on a green light in Carlow to get away from gardai. Lads eventually caught and released without charge. At least one possibly two of the cunts died in the incident on the M9 last week.

Justice system is completely broken. And it's very scary that there's people out there that minimise individuals like this or put it down to teenage tomfoolery.

There's talk of upgrading to attempted murder driving the wrong way on a motorway. As ever, it's all well and good bringing in new laws but until we have adequate prison space, it's all a waste of time.
