Overcrowded prisons is the first hurdle that needs to be dealt with. Under no circumstances should someone accrue 100+ convictions. I'm all for diversion programs etc after the first 1 or maybe 2 offences but let's be real here, these yobs are very unlikely to be "diverted". It's idealistic and unrealistic to believe so.

I see it everyday. Little Johnny is a harmless darling. Except he's not, not even in the slightest and now he has caused the death of someone.

All IQ discourse rubs me up the wrong way, full stop (cos IQ is a bullshit measure), but especially this recently re-popularized by Trump et al "low IQ individuals" thing. A pet peeve, and a total aside to the subject at hand, sorry.

To be fair, I think it's pretty obvious what any reasonable person means when they associate 'low IQ' with deliberately driving a stolen vehicle down the wrong side of a motorway into oncoming traffic. It's not an invitation to a wider discourse about the merits of IQ as a reliable indicator of intelligence. People are perfectly entitled to feel outraged by this without having to keep their language in check.
