Mary Shelley's Frankenstein
Pretty sure I saw it when it came out but remembered none of it, nor was I into it.

Is This Thing On?
For a movie based on a comedian it had very few laughs. Was fine.

Friendship
Another gem with Tim Robinson. He only seems to have one gear but it works.

Great movie. That reminds me that I need to check out The Chair Company.

it really is. One of my favourite movies. I hope Tom Hanks isn't another Epstein though ha ha

Zulu

Another I hadn't watched since childhood years. It was awesome, enjoyed the whole thing. Was caught completely off-guard by Michael Caine playing someone upper crust

Was in a similar vein today with The Ten Commandments. That's both key cinematic seeds planted to pave the way to Raiders, the other being The Sound of Music  Now, just to leave them gestate for a year or so (think 6 is prob a bit young for any face-melting outside of a guitar solo context  )

Watched The Wife with Glen Close and Jonathan Pryce earlier. He is a writer who has been invited to Stockholm to receive a Nobel prize for literature. She is the wife... or maybe more! Two really strong performances and a nice little story.

Sirat - enjoyed this, couple of genuinely "oh fuck" moments that made me glad I went in blind. Looks amazing as well. Would watch again, probably will. Basically a guy and his son on the trail of his daughter who has gone missing at a rave in the Moroccan desert, and their resulting search to find her.

Dolly - ah yeah, basically a Texas Chainsaw style grindhouse affair that's nothing wildly new and low on plot, sense or backstory but if you want a quick (under 90 minutes) blast of depraved gory fun this is the one to go for. Genuinely grimy too, thanks to the dfact it was shot on film. I'd say if you enjoy the likes of Gutterball, the first Terrifier, etc, this will ring your bell.

Black Hawk Down

Hadn't seen this since the cinema. Thought the first half hour was absolute Hollywood nonsense and even considered turning it off, but I'm glad I didn't. Once it got into the combat stuff it was genuinely tense and exciting. Definitely slightly more uncomfortable to watch anything about the American military at this age though compared to the ignorance of youth.

The Hurt Locker

First time seeing this. I remember it won a ton of Oscars, including best picture and best director. I love Kathryn Bigelow (Point Break and Near Dark are all-timers for me), so it's surprising I'd never watched this.

Funnily enough I didn't really get it. As an Oscar-winner I mean. I thought it was a fairly bog standard war film with not a lot that truly stood out, bar maybe the sniper scene. I did enjoy it, but couldn't help but wonder the whole way through how it was best film-worthy. Actually as I write this, I checked the nominees for that year and it wasn't exactly a super strong pool, so maybe it was just good timing.

As an aside, Jeremy Renner is one of those actors I naturally dislike, so he tends to lift me out of films a bit.

Watched The Life Of Chuck and wasn't expecting much but was pleasantly surprised.

Saw a really good Danish one recently too called Just Another Love Story.

Aye it was a good watch. Mike Flanagan stuff is normally pretty good.

Zero Dark Thirty

First time seeing this too. That Bin Laden compound scene will stay with me for a while, really good stuff.

Watched "I Swear". Both hilarious and harrowing at times. The absolute torture he went through. A great watch. Pity every mouthy cunt on the Internet last week didnt watch it first before going off on him.

Not released in the US until next month, unfortunately. Great film though. Hope all the noise translates to many curious punters, though at the same time, I don't know if US audiences will really appreciate it.
