I couldn't disagree more. No trolling, I genuinely think he was the worst thing to happen to the band. Completely deadened their sound from day one, Times Of Grace was a huge step down sonically and they never improved under him IMO. The only album 'his' sound suited was The Eye Of Every Storm, mainly because it was such a quiet album that there was little he could do to ruin it. That might have been the last one I bought, naybe the one after - it shows how little I cared about them at that point that I can't even remember what came next.

I've always hated his production work (with a couple of exceptions), he just flattened the impact of almost every band he touched.

Yup. I like his production work with Neurosis, particularly on TOG which is clear as a bell but heavy as hell.

Wasn't it Albini's whole thing that he never overly compressed anything and let the natural sound of the band and their dynamics shine through in the mix!?

Different strokes and all that, but I'd be of the opposite opinion that there'd only be a handful of things he's put his name to where he wasn't the right man for the job. On a side note, Fugazi just released their version of In On The Killtaker they did with him but never saw the light of day ('til now).

Anyway. This new album sounds class having given it a full listen this morning. Lovely surprise!

Yeah this is genuinely getting better with every listen. They definitely sound really reinvigorated and inspired again here, even juat listening makes me want to do something heavier musically again, tis that exciting. It's still slightly surreal that they're back. New Cardiacs and Neurosis  in  the space of a year has definitely made me a happy old man.

Roll on  that new Steel Pole Bathtub stuff..

Great album anyway, best since the Jarboe collaboration at least, if not TSIB. Needs a few listems to take it all in, I'd imagine.

Yup, there's eatin' and drinkin' in this alright. Very appetite-satisfying first listen anyway!  :abbath:

I haven't bothered with Neurosis in years. A Sun That Never Sets is the last one of theirs that I really enjoyed, but they sound revitalised on this album. Great stuff.

Sounds deadly. Loved that button factory gig. I like what I've listened to of Sumac but never listened enough to get how the vocals fit in, though that might be more a case of me not listening enough, I like his voice in general. I think Turner sounds great contrasting with Von Til on this. As Jamie said, the electronics seem to have a nice place on it too. Distrotable (based in Sligo) are doing pre-orders if anyone wants to get it with local postage: link

They only seem to have the vinyl, annoyingly. I'm fucked if I'm buying it from Evil Greed, their postage rates are nonsense.

Could be worth emailing to see can he order a CD for you.

Try spindizzy/freebird, both had the cd for preorder at the weekend on their respective websites.

Spindizzy in particular put quite a bit of stuff online for preorder that you wouldn't expect
