 >:(  I know by instinct where everything is. Sorta.
Actually started  to alphabetise once last year and got as far as B and said fuck it. Life's too short. And there's a lot of books to read.

This is the correct answer. Anything else is madness. But - where do reissues go? Alongside (after) the originals or by year of release?

I can't stand alphabetical, it's such an uninspiring way to browse to select something to listen to (albeit handy if you know beforehand exactly what you wanted to listen to).

I tend to group mine either by genre or by vibe. Primarily by vibe if it's relevant, and then by genre loosely for everything else. Like, here is the having a casual drink after work section. Here is the getting shitfaced on the weekend section. Here is the rainy day section. Inspiring guitar player section. Stuff like that.

Mine is loosely by genre, but more strictly vibe. Makes total sense in the DJ part of my brain, and because I'd often be either playing them with people around, or bringing a small bundle of them off to other people's gaff's for a session or whatever, they're moved around a lot. I'd have lost my mind a long time ago if that meant strictly returning to alphabetical order. They all end up back in roughly the same section anyway, and it means I get to rotate through them a bit more often if I've forgotten about something.

Bet that sounds like total fucking wank to the strict archivists

Anyway, to continue with the office peeve, the absolute plague of fuckers bereft of both spatial awareness or any sense of urgency. Holy fuck, how do people not hate themselves moving so slow and gormlessly? Have ye no desks to go to?

Fucked it with a double post, but mad we were typing that at the same time!

I have it alphabetical/chronological by default but they are mixed up at the minute.  I pull them forward as I listen to them, let them get out of sorts, arrange them when I forget what I have and go again

Outside of vinyl I have a few tapes and their organisation leaves a lot to be desired.  Some are on my desk.  Some are stored up beside some half built pedals.  Some are here beside a router.  All piles are like this:

I need to do something about it really but it is a walkman and either headphones or an aux I have for listening to tapes anyway.

All my vinyl /CDs etc grouped by genre  that's all, not concerned by  reissues if there are any, they just slot in. Simple. Generally know where everything is. Only thing I am nerdy about is the order of a band / artist discography.

Pre a house move about 7 years ago, everything was alphabetical and then chronological. I spent a few weeks putting everything into Discogs, so was pretty easy to do and keep updated.   Now there is stuff in boxes at the bottom of wardrobes and under beds or in piles in the room I work from home in... I don't think some of you could cope if you saw it

Alphabetical but it's a free for all within the letter.

Alphabetically, then chronologically. Anything else is a hate crime on yourself.

I don't have a choice but to do alphabetical and in year of release due to how many records I have otherwise stuff would be too hard to find. Then I have the issue of most of my stuff being in record boxes so keeping it alphabetical is very difficult and now I have records spread between my house and my parents house. I need to get a big shelving unit sorted out but figuring out where to put that it is the problem.

more or less alphabetical then chronological, but there's a few things I group together, out of alphabetical order, so Morbus Chron, Sweven, and now Speglas are all under M, Parliament is beside Funkadelic under F, Stevie Nicks beside Fleetwood Mac, also under F, and so on.

I have a special shelf for controversial artists so the likes of Burzum, Graveland, and Hate Forest are alongside Gary Glitter and R Kelly.

You wanna be in mein Gang, mein Gang, mein Gang, you wanna be in mein Gang, oh jaaaa!

That's the remix (to Ignition).

We had to combine our powers to combat all the boring old archivists around here. I'll bet if they had those socks with the days of the week on them, they'd refuse to wear Tuesday unless it was actually Tuesday  ;)
