Just having a look at drink prices in Spanish supermarkets would make your average Irish tourist laugh. If you're not fussy, you can get the equivalent of 12 cans for 3.50-4 quid. And the Don Simon jakey juice is even more economical.

Ah stop man you're breaking my jakey little heart

I need to get back to Spain if only to pick up some savage rums for fuckall at the airport.

Good deal here whether you're a connoisseur, a lush or just a fuckin' martyr for the sauce.

I'm not much of a spirits drinker but I've been told the gin and rum are good.

'Say hell no to dry January and say hello to Try January'

Amazing 😂

Dry January is only an aul cod anyway. How else are you supposed to deal with the misery of the month at all.

Think I was seeing a bottle of Absolute vodka for around 12E in some shops in Spain, the last time I've been there around 4-5 years ago. Would this be something like a
regular price, or I was just stumbling onto some kind of a promotional price?

As a proud owner and drinker of a collection of 60+ bottles & a couple of whiskey ageing barrels of fine Irish and Scottish whisk(e)y.....
This video is pure pure pure unadulterated liquid porn...

Yes, it's around that price.

I paid 3 or times that for a 'fancy' bottle of Rakija from a Tempo supermarket in Belgrade!

On the Peroni since christmas, it's going down a treat. Had to pack in the cider cause the heartburn was killing me.

That seems a bit expensive. The best rakija is homemade anyway. The one you can find in small villages that the locals would sell you for 5-7 Euros a bottle if you pester them long enough.
Speaking about Spain, I miss Patxaran. It is probably not crude enough drink, but I love the taste.
I remember devouring insane amounts of Queimada. The locals couldn't believe what they saw.

Patxaran is from the North. Homemade Galician Orujo can be of good quality, although it's years since I had any.

I tried homemade Rakija way back in 2004 when I was on erasmus, when I had a flatmate from Sarajevo. His friends brought it, tasted like what I imagine petrol tastes like! I bought a bottle from a monastery in southern Serbia as a souvenir. They said it was made from the monastery's own still, but I'm probably over romanticising it like I did with the Buckfast Abbey and the solemn wine making between early morning prayers...

Yeah, guess patxaran is from the Basque country.
Rakija from the monasteries has a reputation as some of the best ones you could get. But yeah, you are over romanticising it. I love it, but it is just a gut wrenching drink  :-)
Serbian rakija is great, but we make it with a little bit higher percentage of alcohol in my country.

There is a huge variety of that stuff to choose from. Serbian prices in pubs (maybe not the kafanas, that got very messy and very expensive) are perfect for Irish visitors compared to Croatia or Ljubljana. 80c for a pint of that Jelena and 2€ for a glass of the higher end Rakijas, and that's in Belgrade. Send a few of the booze hounds from here down to Nîs (a total shithole but still) with a few hundred euros for a weekend, they'll be the new Prince Lazar!

Spain is a wine lovers paradise of course, and none of that minimum price carry on. The bums here love their boxín of wine god bless them, and you can't go wrong at 70c a litre :)
