He said that to you? Fuckin' hell, that's ballbag stuff. To a paying customer?! You'd have been all within your rights to tell him to fuck off.

I haven't darkened his door since but he is a known cunt anyway. It was a one off for me to go near the place anyway.

Eight cans of 500ml Rockshore forn10 euro, sound.

Anyone familiar with White Hag brewing company? They pop up on my FB feed. 24 cans (330ml) for €60. Not cheap by any stretch. It galls me if I have to pay more than €2 for a 500ml bottle in Lidl/Aldi or if Tesco/Dunnes don't happen to be doing their 4 for €10. So, are they tasty enough to have as an odd treat? I'm clueless as regards malt, hops n all that jazz, I just like what I like.

Worked in pubs for years. Never seen anyone wanting to drink stout from the bottle.

I'd always have it in a pint glass, never tried it from the bottle. I will now, out of curiosity.

I agree it isn't the done thing in general but it does keep the pint a bit sharper for those who are into that sort of thing. I mean if it's ok to drink a longneck of Bud from the neck why not the large bottle of stout other than the fact it looks a bit unconventional?

Yep, absolutely love most of their stuff. Their brewery is just out the road from me here in Sligo and they pump out a great selection for such a small spot. Most pubs around here too would have something of theirs on tap as well, so it's pretty popular. I've seen their IPA (Little Fawn) on tap in quite a few spots in Cork too. On tap they're the normal pint price.

Their lemon and hibiscus sour is my all time favourite beer (to be fair most people either seem to love or hate it and sours in general). Could drink it 'til I drop. Had a feed of cans of their Róc lager the other evening. Nice and refreshing, goes down almost too easy. Atlantean IPA is savage too.

Price-wise it is a bit saucy, but a friend of mine down in Cork ordered the 24 pack for €60 the other week and she said the P and P was free at least.

Nice one, Ducky. I think I'll treat myself so.

Most of The White Hag's stuff is excellent - Atlantean, Ninth Wave, The Phantom, Little Fawn, Dark Druid and Bran & Sceolan are all very tasty. I'm not sold on sour beers - I'm of the opinion that if you got a beer that smelled/tasted that way 10 years ago then you would have handed it back - so I can't really comment except to say that the ones I've had from The White Hag weren't that nice.

You're better off seeing if you can get a mixed case - you'll either get bored of the same one or get stuck with 23 beers that you don't like if the first one is bad.

No worries! As Stout & Ale says, have a gawk if there's a sampler slab available.

I know my brother had one a few years back, although he does know someone working there and wanted to try a few different ones out, so I dunno if they sorted him out or if it's a regular thing.

They do super limited 750ml bottles of interesting gear for their birthday (which is usually celebrated with "Hagfest" - tour of the brewery and get sloshed, then the short train journey back to town) and Christmas. I had the Christmas brew one year and it was like drinking syrup. Was about 10% (which I didn't realise) so got rat arsed in no time at all. The bottles are nice for collecting as they're sealed with wax.

Ya, ideally I'd be looking at one of those sampler packs. Seems to be slabs made up of 3 or 4 beers at the moment. I'm sure I'd cope.

Set up recently by dead centre in Athlone. They do a few sampler mixed cases. Prices are a bit steep but that's craft for you. St Mels is decent value for very solid beer. Their brown ale is amongst the best beer in the country in my opinion.

Do try out the sours if you see them in Tesco, you'll either love or hate them but they're an experience for sure.

Craft Central is better than Beer Cloud in my opinion. Bigger inventory and plenty of 4 for €10/4 for €12 offers so you can make a mixed case including single cans if you want to try something that you're 50/50 on.

I'll have a look there too.
