Cold Dark Heart in Aldi is daycent too.

That's O'Shea's rebranded right? They changed their Irish Lager to To Helles and Back too. Dunno what their IPAs are called now. Suppose if I picked up a few bottles I'd find out.

I believe so yes. Tried To Helles and Back, didn't think much of it. Think the IPA is called Trick of the Light. Haven't tried that yet. The pale ale is decent enough but that stout is easily the best of the range.

You are correct, those names actually do ring a bell. I thought they were lovely.

Right lads, I haven't had a few beers since New Years and am looking for some this Friday. Can anyone recommend a nice fresh beer (not fucking Heineken please), or IPA? I used to love the brown bear yellow bottles, but any nice non IPA beers ye'd recommend to enjoy this Friday?

It's gonna be sunny, I reckon some crispy German lagers should hit the spot. You can't go too far wrong with them to be honest. I know some people have strong opinions on various brands but I find them all at least decent. Augstiner Helles & Edelstoff are both delightful, Tegernseer make lovely stuff too,  Chiemseer.........Bavarian is usually a safe enough bet! Rothaus Pils is another cracking lager

Are you blowing out the whole IPA category as a non-runner?

astfygl would be the go to man for beer advice on the for. He's always bragging about beers I've never tasted nor even heard of.

Einsiedler Hell from Aldi is my go-to lager these days. Unreal stuff. Also anything Yung Led Zeppelin recommended above is spot on for good weather.

Got a box of beer coming from beerclub tomorrow hopefully. Complete mix of styles so I'm sure the resulting beer farts will be fairly septic.

That Einsiedler Helles is very enjoyable alright, great that it seems to have become regular stock. I find it very light and clean, it goes down almost too easy, but again, perfect for sunshine gatting

Nice few suggestions there I must try.

Had a bottle of Smithwicks Blonde Ale yesterday evening, goes down a treat in warm weather. Got me thinking about years ago on a sunny down in Tralee drinking lovely crisp pints of Creans lager. Ah Jesus I'm dying for a spin down to Kerry again.

Speaking of Smithwicks, got out of work way after curfew yesterday, and since I've been home alone this week, of course the cupboards are empty. So anyway, ordered a burger and the only beers the place had left was a red by the Normandy brand Kekette, and it was blackcurrant flavored too. I never go in for flavored beers, but I have to say last night that really nailed the refreshment spot between the eyes.

Well lads, the mrs ignored everyone's advice and bought a six pack of McGargles Francis' Big Bangin' IPA. The head was a bit sore this morning. All I know is I'm about to go through it again tonight. First beers since New Years have been savage tasty.

Having some Graffenwalder, or as my auld fella calls it Gene Wilders

Grabbed a can of Brewdog Punk IPA on the way home from work. Not a fan of IPAs generally, but this was perfect on this 27°C day.

You have to love auld lads and culchies just changing foreign stuff to more comfortable pronunciations.

In the local years ago I kept hearing these two old boys ordering pints of Ballycallan (a sráidbhaile in County Kilkenny).

Says I to the barman 'what are they on about, Ballycallan'?

'They are drinking Bavaria'
