I think it's a big enough loss. He was a founding member of a band who have a history of not being able to hold onto their members. Plus Megadeth are well into the game at this stage, Dave's voice hasn't been great for years (or ever, haha) and if some people are on the fence about attending one of their shows, an absent Ellefson might just give them another excuse not to.

If it looks bad for Ellefson, it looks bad for Megadeth. That's how Mustaine would see it. He's very controlling of how the other band members conduct themselves on and off the stage.

I wouldn't see any appeal of Megadeth outside of a nostalgia gig (no disrespect meant to Verburen or Loireiro, they're both savage musicans but they're playing to Mustaine's beat, not their own) and losing Elfeson definetly sucks away some of that appeal.
