Just noticed the first 2 Dissection albums are now on Spotify at last which is great , one of the big Spotify metal gaps filled.

Yeah noticed that last week along with all the old Carcass material. About time!

Oh nice, I hadnt noticed that. Reinkaos was the only one up there for ages

Carcass has been back a few months now. Decapitated up as well.

Storm is a band that has just unleashed itself, no holding back, everything poured into the record, blood, sweat and guts. Like the man said I was obsessed with it. There are loads of great albums from that time but I'm not sure if any came as close to pure perfection as that one in terms of everything..image, vibe, musicianship, the vocals are incredible, the artwork, the lyrics..masterpiece. Another level altogether. Even the flippin album title: 'Storm of the fucking light's bane'..I'm still not quite sure what it means but it's just epic in every sense of the word.

Finding an album that can instantly transport you to another dimension, a completely different world, change your mindset, your attitude, how you approach the day, your entire mood..are there many like that in all reality? There are plenty that are a great listen but Storm has something metamorphic to it, some underlying magic emanating from it. Must stick it on asap.

I assumed the name meant like the onset of darkness. The bane of light is darkness, so it kind of means the light being stormed by darkness. Which for sure would fit in with Nodtveidt's ideologies...

Anyways, now 30 years old! Necro-ing this thread a little bit as I've been obsessed with this album of late so was looking for any previous discussion.

Purely coincidentally listened to it back to back with Ride the Lightning this morning (RtL first) and it was interesting how melodically similar they are. SotLB definitely lifts a lot of influence from it. I'm still in the honeymoon phase with it, but I can't think of a BM album I like better. Or most metal albums in general.

That guitar line in Where Dead Angels Lie that repeats then turns into a bit of a Slash type lick, it gets me every time.

Think it referenced The End of the light.
Shame that 7 year hiatus denied us some more albums as there was an old interview where they mentioned they were writing new stuff and is was going to be heavier than Storm and more aggressive.
Often wondered if that Soul Reaper written in Blood album might have had some of those ideas and tracks as it was very Dissection sounding in parts and Nodveidt wasnt too happy with them coming out with that band/album.

That tune is far too close to circus music.

 Have to say that was my first thought too many moons ago.

A circus of brilliance I say.

I'd never actually noticed that until you pointed it out. I love that song and its melody, but that bluesy lick sounds a little out of place to me

Like there's some cool enough stuff on the rest of the album (prefer the debut), but arrrggghhhh, I just fucking can't unhear the circus vibes.

I just showed my girlfriend the album cover and she thought they were called Dessert Time. Which is obviously hilarious given the nature of the band/Jon.

Even funnier, when you look at it it genuinely does look a bit like that.

Between Dessert Time and the circus we've thoroughly ruined the mystique of this band.
