Simple Pleasures

First snowfall of the year is a great pleasure here. I live opposite a wee park and it's great to get out and sit on a bench and watch it all drift down in the peace and quiet.

I guess another simple pleasure is always having a white Christmas here. Of course I'm visiting home this Christmas so it's likely to be a brown one for me this year...

I would never be particularly fussy about coffee but you can't beat a nice one really.  I had a jar of instant in work there for the past few weeks, no complaints, back on the Lavassa Oro in the french press today and the fuckin difference.  Absolutely unreal.

We have a Dunnock roosting above the light over our front door, which I only discovered when it scared the crap out of me the other night. Chatting to someone from the doorstep and it took off, I only got a look at it last night. Unusual one to have one there, there's no nest but, judging by the piles of crap that greet me every morning, it's been there for a while.

Haven't noticed a Dunnock in the garden for a while, but saw a group of Long Tailed Tits in yesterday for the first time in 4 or 5 years.

Having your flight cancelled but it just extends your holiday. I was supposed to fly back to Canada through Amsterdam so my flight was cancelled and rescheduled to 4 days later, but I was just staying at my mum's house so it worked for me. Some poor bastards have been at Schiphol Airport on cots for 5 and 6 days now!

I tried my hand at baking today for the first time. Attempted a Guinness and Walnut bread.

Holy fuck but it is class... made 3 loaves and the first one almost gone already.

Love baking and am at it years but also have tried fuck all outside of white bread and its slight variations (pizza, baguettes, focaccia, baps, rolls, loaves, etc etc etc).  Post in the auld recipe for that there when you get a chance please.

Last month someone gave me a Paul Hollywood bread book with a ton of stuff in it but I've made none of them yet, I have just made my white bread instead.  Every week.  I love it.  It is disgracefully easy and tastes savage.  The pleasure in both the effort and result is unreal.
