It's actually the chorus that I don't like. Finished my first full listen and yeah, this is class. It's what, their 14th or 15th album? Great stuff.

I was supposed to see them in Cork last year but I was in the middle of moving (from Cork) so missed it. Was pissed at the time for missing it, a bit moreso when I realised they were touring a decent record too.

Blasting away some pre interview nerves with Panzer Division Marduk.

Morbid Angel - Formulas Fatal To The Flesh

Strapping Young Lad - Alien

15th if you count Babyteeth and Pleasure Death as albums. It was produced by Chris Sheldon again, part of why it sounds so good IMO.

Despite being a fan since Pleasure Death, I never saw them until their acoustic tour a few years ago, and then touring Cleave last year. Bloody good, I'd advise catching them next time out.

Saw em last year myself in Thurles playing the feile. Thought they were great. Managed to get a wristband so went in watched them and fucked off again after. I'd like to see them in a smaller place but I missed the limerick gig.

Morgion - Among Majestic Ruin

The last week has predominantly been:

Manilla Road - Crystal Logic
Manilla Road - Open The Gates
Manilla Road - The Deluge

Belial - Diabology

Here is the bandcamp link:

for me, this has a lot of the right elements but somehow doesn't quite work overall...

Got into them around 1998 or 99 (when I first got into music), only caught them live once at Ozzfest 2002. They were probably the best band of the day.

Agree that Sheldon is key to it sounding so good. I also think Cooper is integral to their sound - he emulates Ewing's style but is creative in his own right. Hopkins was a solid drummer (and I still love Semi-Detached) but didn't suit the style nearly as much.

Given Cleave six spins since yesterday, annoyed that I overlooked it for so long  :abbath:

Kreator - Extreme Aggression
Sodom - Agent Orange

Was it here or somewhere else there was a more or less recent discussion about many of the thrash bands floating towards a homogenous sound over time? Looking back, that process really did start early on. Don't know why I decided to put these two on today, but I did almost instantly remember why I only usually listen to the first two by either.

Tomb Mold - Manor of Infinite Forms
Phrenelith - Desolate Endscape

Two albums that slot into the "companion" albums guise for me. Very rarely reach for one without the other.

Horrendous - Idol
Maudlin of the Well - Leaving your Body Map

The latter is very much a record I heard when I was younger and didn't understand. Such an amazing piece of work.

Aura Noir - Out to Die

Neurosis - Through Silver in Blood

Ephel Duath - Pain Necessary to Know

Thou - Blessings of the Highest Order (I'm pleased this isn't the novelty I'd imagined).

Nile - Annihilation of the Wicked, 'User-Maat-Re' is a thing of beauty!

Helfró s/t

The Ruins of Beverast - Blood Vaults - The Blazing Gospel of Heinrich Kramer
