Moved on to Ok Computer after that for extra 90's points, Climbing Up The Walls is some cracking tune but most likely off topic

Had Hammerheart on during the week. With a glass of whiskey..... so nice. Great listening of a June evening.  :abbath:

Under the Sign is one of my all time favourite records but I've somehow never heard a note of the first two records.

Minus 1,001 metal points to me  :abbath:

They are cool and important for what they influenced, but there is a bit of filler scattered among them to my ear. I think that the second wave really took what Quorthon did on those earlier albums and made it way more interesting. I'm a 'Hammerheart' man when it comes to Bathory. That's one that can be emulated but maybe never equalled. The limitations of Quorthon's voice in particular really add something to it that would be nigh on impossible to replicate.

Listening to 'Like Gods of the Sun' now. I'm loving it. Kind of an overlooked album in MDB's catalogue,  and unfairly so to my ear. Not as good as their best stuff,  but still strong in its own right.

The Return... Is their best in my opinion. Although anything other than Octagon is a valid choice. I didn't hear a note of Bathory until 2008 so don't feel too bad.

Cultes Des Ghoules - Haxan, was perfect for trudging through the pissing rain earlier.
Dead Congregation - Sombre Doom
CdG - Spectres Over Transylvania
Aethyrick - Solstice Cycle, not winning any points for originality but compelling songs all the same.
CdG - Spectres, yep, again. Because its just that good.
Vassafor - Elegy of the Archeonaut comp.
Can't wait for the new Vassafor on August 7th.

With Bathory it has to be Blood Fire Death. It's so good.
Today has been a Cruciamentum day. I love the mix of madness and the riffs.

Rory Gallagher - Irish Tour 74

Thyrfing-Valdr Galga and Urkraft.  Must be well over a decade since I played either. Amazing what a summer clean can unearth.

Vaee Solis - Adversarial Light
Haud Mundus - Oblivio Appositus
O Cerco - a desolação
Enlighten - Phösphorvs Paramovnt
Decayor - Recurring Times of Grief
Drave - Terroir

Since the rest of your list is so great, anything in particular by Aethyrick you would recommend more? I know of them from the Sinister Flame connection, even read an interview in their zine, but have never actually gotten around to checking them out.

Sorry man, it sounds like I had the same path to them, via TSF, as you. Got the Solstice Cycle CD then from Invictus, its both their demos and as good a place to start as any. Its nowhere near as "demo" sounding as you might expect from a Finnish BM band. It's quite mature and polished, with some good concepts and imagery running through. Will be grabbing Praxis and Gnosis too.

Currently spinning yet more CdG - Henbane, at the moment. Continuing my current enjoyment of the witchy and weird.
