I don't get why.  They're technically incredible and their stuff is so atmospheric. Missed them last time they were in Ireland.

they came across badly from the off- the Brits in hats satanism stuff made it look like the vibe and the satanism were the point, whereas all their albums are first rate on their own merit.

I certainly got put off them and turned on to them in one fell swoop by, respectively, how they looked in their picture in an old Metal Hammer, and how they sounded on the cover CD.

Akercocke are class.  "Words that go unspoken..." is a start to finish masterpiece.

Ah here lads, Akercocke are fucking brilliant. None of the albums are bad, and they are certainly underrated. Goat of Mendes through to Antichrist is some run of albums. First one is a bit more formative but I still love it, and the last one is missing the Satan but is still excellent prog influenced metal.

Try Antichrist or Choronzon if not familiar with them.

The spinoff bands are great as well.

did we ever find out if he was related to clive mendonca

He isn't, but Clive Anderson is his spirit animal

I enjoyed that, quick check is he still alive

Never saw the appeal TBH, though they had one song on a compilation CD that was alright.

King Diamond - Abigail

Also have Conspiracy and Them en route on vinyl, going cheap via the KD online store at the moment.

Bryan Beller - Scenes from the Flood

Good stuff and different from his usual Aristocrat efforts

I'll never get this. Does a metal band have to have the same band t'shirt jean combination to qualify for entry to your ears??  Or is it "not tonight mate" if they're well dressed?

Some people get turned on by gimmickery, some the opposite.

For me, I got turned off them when I saw them live, despite strong recommendations from people whose music tastes I respect. I had neither heard nor seen them prior to that experience.

Only caught them live once in Cork, the blew the roof off the place!
