Thou covering Nirvana again here. I actually bought the download, which goes against everything I believe in but at least I can burn a decent sounding CD of it this way

Megiddo - The Devil and the Whore

I've never listened to the EPs, but the three albums are pretty similar in that they all have some great songs but also uckload of filler (NOLA very much included - in fact due to its reputation I think it's a massively overrated album).

Down have always been one of those bands that gained popularity due to who's in the band and not the quality of their material.

You can like something or not, but saying it's popular only because of who is in the band is a cop out. I'd be fierce picky with music and after 20+ years I think NOLA is a perfect album. I love every second of it, and it has nothing to do with the members. Actually it has everything to do with the members because they were on fire on the album, but they're not the reason I love it. The second album alright, the third winky wanky woo...same band with one or two changes, but don't like the 3rd album. If it was only the members I'd love everything surely?

Sticking with filth at the moment,
Portal - Vexovoid, superb album. Really wish they would release the shelved album, recorded between this and Ion.
Irkallian Oracle - Grave Ekstasis, first listen to this and really enjoyed it. (got it cheap from New Era productions).
Currently blasting Impetuous Ritual - Unholy Congregation of Hypocritical Ambivalence, fuckin fierce stuff. Unhinged and frenzied DM.

now personally I'd be with you that an original cd mastered in the 80s or 90s from the studio reels is worth buying, and similarly for tapes and records, but sometimes in weak moments I wonder how close anything past vinyls made in the 80s is a lot closer to downloading some shite file and sticking it on a cdr than we like to admit

Down has always mystified me. It's not the late 90s anymore. I can understand in that time period it kind of fitted the bill as the late 70s were coming back all heavied up, and Pantera was a big band still, so side projects had a sense of curiosity or expectation about them. But Down's stuff is just ok, to my ears at least. The Anselmo style was a bit over done maybe? Fair play he's still putting out records. Hopefully the criticism of time and place over musical interest isn't too strong, no offence meant.

Melechesh - As Jerusalem Burns

Corr Mhóna - Dair. That opening track is majestic.

Looking forward to something new from the Corr Mhóna camp.

Are they still tipping away or are one or two of em busy with The Grief?

I think there was mention of there being new material in the works.

Lord Fist - Spark For The Night

I miss those mini cassettes Sarlacc Productions used to put out years ago.

I was listening to the Stallion one the other day funny enough and wondering where ol' Farticus got to.
Wearing jeans and leather, not crackerjack clothes

The Stallion one is great too. Witches Coven, Born for Burning and Evil Killer were some other highlights.

Born for Burning had one really brilliant song,  as I recall.  The rest of the demo was good but nowhere near the same level.  Must root it out again.
