Transylvania - Magia Posthumous 9/10
Steadily becoming one of my most played albums of the year, the strong sense of Dissection melodicism, the hints of Tribulation gothicism, the vicious bite to the vocals, really impressive from the Austrians.

Coscradh - Carving The Causeway To The Otherworld  8.5/10
Finally got hold of this last week from Everlasting Spew on a plum coloured vinyl which has no correllation at all with the rather spiffing cover art. It definitely has opened up this scathing beast of an album to be able to read the lyrics along with it. Whatever bog birthed this one should be blessed, burned and built over. Heinous stuff.


Mother Of Graves - The Periapt of Absence 8/10
Refreshing on this one before  the follow up is out on Profound Lore next month. Perfect for the onset of Autumn, melancholic Death Doom akin to Katatonia before Jonas began to channel his inner Thom Yorke.

Consecration - Exanimis 8/10
First foray into the despondent realms of Consecration and I'm hooked on their blend of early Peaceville Doom and more traditional early nineties Death Metal riffing ,the track Submerged By Sand in particular coming across like a Bloodbath paean to the past whilst elsewhere the likes of Evoken, Runemagick, MDB, even our own Graveyard Dirt are brought to mind.

Gutvoid - Liminal Shrines 7.5/10
And more Profound Lore, out earlier this year, the first of a two part concept from Toronto's Gutvoid, not quite prog Death but definitely exploratory Death that should see them on many a End Of Year List.

Locrian - Infinite Dissolution 7/10
Seemingly not Metal enough to warrant a place on Metal Archives which surprised me as the Chicago based trio know how to bring an almost Industrial heaviness to their dystopian soundscapes. Maybe try patch jackets lads.

And,  not speaking for Andy, but Panzerfaust is Norwegian Black Metal 101 for the cool kids. Whereas 'Under A Funeral Moon' is the  the inner sanctum.

UAFM is my favourite DT, but Panzerfaust is fucking class as well! Way more brutal production on it- more dry and upfront, but fucking gift.

Yeah, ripped out the Funeral Moon  again now and after some of the stuff I was listening to tonight you're wishing it had a bass injection and a bit more meat on the skeletal bones but...BUT...maybe that's what makes it an epitome of the Norwegian permafrost. Hell of a lot of nostalgia with this record in transparency.
