The new WITTR.... Very tasty to my ears...

Quote from: Grim Reality on August 20, 2026, 10:12:58 PMHail Conjurer - earth penetration (fin)

Black metal of the experimental/outsider variety. Typical Finnish you might say. It's quite raw/unproduced in one way yet catchy and accessible in another. There's plenty of synthy soundscape type stuff in there amongst the bedrock of BM. Quite hard to describe

I have this on cassette and whenever I got it it just got buried and never really got in to it. Been listening to the other numerous releases on spoitify now and they are similarly interesting. Probably would appeal to fans of Urfaust, ride for revenge, circle of ouroborus etc

The dude plays drums in RFR these days. I've never picked anything up by them despite thinking what I've listened to by them is pretty good.

Morgoth - The Eternal Fall/Resurrection Absurd 9/10
Classic early German DM but this is a shitshow of a reissue from (the otherwise unknown to me) Funeral Industries, artwork on both EPs blurry and obviously blown up from the CD covers, awkward top opening on the sleeve, no lyrics...bah. Used to have The Eternal Fall t-shirt, was an all time favourite.

Consumption - Catharsis 8.5/10
Killer Swedish DM from last year ,satisfyingly grotty but with those catchy guitar lines reminiscent of prime Carcass. A noxious brew indeed.

Benedictum - Uncreation 7.5/10
Big fan of Veronica Freeman's ballsy vocal performance on this 2006 debut, not sure if there was a news for covers of both Heaven and He'll AND Mon Rules but when they're done this well and the band's own punchy blend of modern (20 years ago modern!) Heavy Metal holds up this well then it's thumbs up from me.

Elixir - Sovereign Remedy 7/10
Essentially a rerecording of their Lethal Potion album which was glossed with a more commercial sound due to label pressure.

Annihilator - Set The World On Fire 6/10
Where Jeff fell of the thrash wagon or at least got his head turned by the likes of Metallica streamlining their sound, in fairness he didn't take any grunge on board here and the title track is pretty killer. 'Bats..' , 'Knight...' and 'Braindance' also pepper this with quality. 'Phoenix Rising' should have been shipped of to Bryan Adams though.

Moonspell - The Butterfly Effect 5/10
With bands across the extreme metal spectrum clamouring over each other to reinvent themselves in the late nineties it was hardly surprising that Moonspell would go from dipping their black varnished toes in choppy waters with  the (personal favourite of mine) Sin/Peccado to pushing their chips (and guitars) all in on this darkwave dissertation on the human condition and the vagaries of chance. I can still make it through to the end ok, it's Moonspell, it's always quality, but it still goes back on the shelf straight after.

Wearing jeans and leather, not crackerjack clothes

Buzzard - Gambler 8.5/10
Bonus shout because the white wine has hit hard and this oldie has provided the soundtrack, I'm going to start wearing spandex and leg warmers .

Saw Morgoth in 1991 when they supported Massacre in McGonagle's, alongside Immolation. What a gig, had that t-shirt too...

Sounds great  :abbath:

Video is amazing.

Quote from: Thorn on August 20, 2026, 09:55:49 PMCrazy, I was listening  to Grave the other day (Burial Ground) and checked the Archives to see when they last released an album....11 years! Couldn't believe that. Was gonna mention it here but I knew it would have been of case of 'Sure they've got nothing new to say anyway' . They were another band who featured regularly on the 2FM Metal show as far as I recall.

I would also have bet my house on them having released a new album in the last couple of years!

Thyrfing - Vanagandr
Sigh - Shiki
Deep Purple - Fireball
Eternal Champion - Ravening Iron
Tynator - Shrieking Sounds of Deafening Terror (might be harsh but this was a really duff purchase in the hope they might have been a hidden 80s thrash gem).
Obituary - Cause of Death Live Infection.
Overkill - Wrecking Your Neck Live
Immortal - Sons of Northern Darkness

Catharsis - Samsara
Kickback - No Surrender

Cro-Mags - The Age of Quarrel
Sick of it All - Scratch The Surface

Both absolutely ludicrous and wildly musically impressive. I must actually give this new album a go. Outrageous guitar action.

Nice to see them feature heavier bands. The Oranssi and Iron Lung ones were ace.
