I got into Metallica (and metal in general)the summer the bkack album came out; so definitely have a soft spot for it!.

I think in hindsight that the best 'black album ' was Symphony of Destruction by MEGADETH,  same but better. I was one of those who disliked the black album at the time,  boring and cringe!. Having said that I still binge watched 'binge and purge' videos at the time.

Countdown was a blatant cash grab and poor knock-off of the more commercial style for me, I've never liked it. Tinny production too, especially compared to Metallica's. It has a few decent songs but it's not one I own anymore.

Meant to say 'Countdown ..' . I get it, I think the production on Black Album is great (which I didn't mention) just personally prefer Megadeth during this moment in time.

I get it. My reaction to Countdown is like most people's reaction to the black album. I was (and still am) a huge fan of the three albums that preceded it (KIMB has always been shit) and the blatant attempt to emulate Metallica just never sat well with me.

Looking back on it I just think METALLICA were overhyped at that time, all over MTV etc (even then I would have sooner thrown on RTL) and Megadeth were kind of down the ladder so, being a rebellous teenager I went for 'COUNTDOWN..'. PLUS I hated Enter Sandman,  Sad but true, unforgiven , nothing else matters..anyway, I prefered Megadave at the time.

Immortal - Northern Chaos Gods 8.5/10
First one without Abbath and was he missed?.You'd have to say no, this was as arrogant and defiant as it was grim and grandiose with some killer tunes from the tundra, a credit to Demonaz and Horgh.

Bulldozer - XI 8/10
The delightfully obnoxious third album and while most would pick out the ode to porn star Illona Staller I've always favoured, as a fan of Italian football, the AC-Inter inspired The Derby.

Sarcasm - Esoteric Tales of The Unserene 7.5/10
Unwieldy album and song titles aside I like a bit of Sarcasm though they are destined to remain in the shadows of melodic Swedish Death overlords such as Dissection, At The Gates and Sacramentum.

Abuser - Blood Marks 7/10
Finally released their debut after a demo in 2019, Poland's Abuser are a cheap date on Xtreem at present for anyone fancying a night of Seps/Slayer/Kreator inspired thrash, not bad at all this.

Brujeria - Brujerizmo 6/10
I didn't even realise I had anything by these bandits until this on  Side B of a tape copy of Black Rose; somewhere back in time a Lynott/Latino combo must have seemed a good idea. With Dino on board this basically sounds like Mexican FF but I didn't mind it at all, have to say. The toughest street in town just got tougher.
