That gig was mighty, you half mad, half insane lunatic. The one a couple of years later wasn't though, the Obsolete tour.

Dunno. It was grand. I think of Machine Head with Meshuggah and MBJ in 95, Therapy? in 93 or Type O in 97 all in the SFX as better, more awe- inspiring gigs. FF were good but it wasn't as spectacular to me.

I'm just a fanboy for that album so maybe I got more out of it. First gig I brought my younger brother to as well, and he loved it too. Grand day out and all that.

Ah don't get me wrong, I loved the album at the time, I even enjoyed the gig. I just wouldn't consider it a classic gig of that time for me.

ha, the daughter texted me yesterday going "I see Fear Factory are playing Dublin soon..", so if it's a Demanufacture set I might accompany her

Sure why not. It'll probably be better than the SFX gig in... 96?

It was in 95. With Skinfather as support.

They did Demanufacture here at their 2015 gig for the 20th anniversary, think they might have done it again on runs for the 25th and 30th so wouldn't expect it

I didn't realise it was the same year as Machine Head in there. I really liked Skinfather. Less so Pet Hates who opened!

How were Meshuggah at that?

I thought they were cool. They were probably the heaviest band I'd seen live at that point but I wasn't familiar with any of their music prior to the gig. I never went on to buy anything by them either and find them boring as hell these days. But as a 13 year old, they were impressive.

Yep, enjoyed Skinfather too. Decent band. Fear Factory were sound at that show. Came out and talked to everyone after the show

Warning - Rituals of Shame.
Lunar Shadow - Far From Light
Slayer - Show No Mercy
Iron Maiden - Seventh Son
Iron Maiden - Piece of Mind

Last five:
Bolt Thrower (England) – The Fourth Crusade (1992, needs no introduction, certainly my favourite album of theirs).

Forefather (England) – The Fighting Man (2000, bought after rave reviews in Metalworks, pagan metal, great opening track and a couple of other great tracks, but some that have always bugged the shit out of me too).

Gràb (Bayern) – Kremiss (2025, really good black metal with a bit of an atmosphere, certainly in my top ten from last year, played it a bit too much for a chunk of last year, but good to come back to it).

Rivers Like Veins (Poland) – Z iskier srebrnych orszaków (2019, more black metal with a bit of an atmosphere, this one has really grown on me over the past year or so, having not thought much of it before that).

In Flames (Sweden) – Lunar Strain (1994, one of the original and best NWSMDM albums, still class).

Lunar Strain is the only In Flames album I ever picked up- the reissue with Subterranean included. I loved Behind Space, and having stuck it on YouTube now it still holds up as a ripper of an opening track. Nothing else on the album caught my ear and I shelved it, but I've just grabbed the CD to listen to in the car tomorrow. Maybe its time has come. Let's find out.

Edit. I enjoyed that more than I expected to,  and remembered more of it than I thought I would.

Subterranean is also class, but I must say, I really do love the next two albums, The Jester Race and Whoracle, too. They lost me then, though.

I tend to listen to Lunar Strain less out of laziness, as I have it on vinyl and the others on CD, but it is probably the pick of the bunch.

Liked the Jester Race when I was younger but haven't listened to it in about 20 years. Nothing else ever grabbed me. Will give Lunar Strain a lash.
