Electric Wizard – Dopethrone

I don't listen to much stoner doom, but Electric Wizard at their best really infused the experience with such negativity and hate it is hard not to like it! Stoner is usually a bit too generic and cartoonish- and EW have albums like that too- but Dopethrone is pure nihilism.

Song-writing in a lot of stoner doom I've heard is poor.
They seem to just go for the sound more than the craft.

Not a huge fan of the genre myself, but I'd recommend checking out As Heaven Turns to Ash by Warhorse. They're like the US version of EW and the tunes are equally as good.

Bloodbath - Survival of the Sickest

Savage album, a favourite.  Had it on again lately myself.  "I, The Witchfinder" easily one of the best songs going in the genre, the bit where the drums drop back to the toms and everything else just builds on the huge doom crush over them - ridiculous. Love it.

90% of the genre is dogshit, but I am a big fan of the approach done well or the particular flavour of it I enjoy expanded on.  It is a thing that is fairly loose as to what sort of style falls under it but like yourself here I need a bit of bleak in there as a salt on the stoner riffs to get it going, most of the time.  The production has tons to do with it too, another genre that is usually better ragged and blown out, or live takes over anything too polished up.

Been on the new Tooms album all day.  Just great, can't get enough of it.  Heavy, dirty, loads to dig into.

Tårfödd - Efterlämnade i sorg

Axxis - Kingdom Of The Night.
Never listened to this before and was pretty excited after hearing the first track which is a cracker then the rest of the album descended into generic hard rock bullshit. Very disappointing after that killer first song.

Deftones - "White Pony"
Still my favourite I think.  Though the s/t and Diamond Eyes give it some run for its money.

For the first seven songs I'd agree re; s/t and Diamond Eyes, but the last four songs on White Pony are untouchable.

I was listening to Deep Purple's Machine Head (Pictures of Home is their best song!), but that's getting removed from the turntable (the CD drive in my hi-fi rotates discs, ergo is a turntable  ) in favour of WP. And I'm gonna skip straight to Korea.

Yup the back half of WP is particularly class.  That is probably what pips it over DE and s/t for me, they are both great but there's lulls in the flow, WP just doesn't let down.

Machine Head is also class.  I actually know no other DP album through bar Machine Head but I have listened to that enough to make up the difference

Neurosis - the new one again for the 50,000 time, savage.

Blood Incantation - "Absolute Elsewhere"
Still love this too. Listened to it to death on release in the end, but lately it had fallen into the shuffle list, just put it on right through again and it is still hitting the spot.

Goatmoon - Varjot

Sigrblot - Blodsband
