Old school inspired German bands using Rototoms forever🤘
It's a savage album.

Dawn Of The Axe is awesome, will also pick this up.

Ulver - Bergtatt
Ulver - Kveldssanger
Ulver - Nattens Madrigal
Ildjarn - Forest Poetry

I'll probably get shocking abuse from the legions of Ildjarn stans on the board, but I'm going to throw caution to the wind and proclaim Forest Poetry as the best of his black metal albums.

Spectral Voice - Eroded Corridors of Unbeing 9/10
2017 album of the year for me and still a Death/Doom benchmark . I've settled on the mysterious apparition on the cover being a ghostly facial profile. Maybe.

Napalm Death - Harmony Corruption 8.5/10
Moving away from their traditional Grind and into the more marketable Death Metal scene of 1990, this was always my go to Napalm back then but would play second fiddle to the likes of Ulitarian or Apex Predator these days.

Warlord - Rising Out Of The Ashes 8/10
Second offering from the U.S. Metal veterans, here joined by Joachim Cans on vocals.I'm not the greatest fan of his squeaky clean pipes but it was inevitable he'd get the nod here given the two band's long-standing bromance dating back to Hammerfall covering Child Of The Damned on their debut.

Laceration - I Erode 7.5/10
A skimpy 32 minutes but a whirlwind of pretty killer Death Metal from the Bay Area act in 2024, for fans of Malevolent Creation, Skeletal Remains, Demolition Hammer etc.

Gorephilia - In The Eye Of Nothing 7/10
2020 release from the Finns, heavily indebted to Morbid Angel, no bad thing at all of course but Ouroboran Labyrinth in particular could have done straight from the MA playbook.

Pestilence - Hadeon 6/10
Latter day Pestilence is a bit of a wasteland for me ,this one was thirteen tracks of very similar fast, thrashy death that fail to leave any lasting impression. Still, not their worst effort.

Turned it off after a couple of tunes. Vocals are so boring and repetitive.  Rototoms also got boring very quickly and I generally love rototoms.

I watched the two videos, which are identical, and yeah, both sucked. Way too much cosplay going on for me.

Darkthrone - A Blaze in the Northern Sky
Enslaved - Frost
Bathory - Under The Sign of the Black Mark
Rotting Christ - Thy Mighty Contract
Immortal - At The Heart of Winter

Forest Poetry is definitely his best work.

King Diamond - Them
DSO - Fas Ite something something something in latin.

Them has to be the most delightful heavy metal album ever conceived. The concept is excellent, dripping in spooky halloween vibes and I grin ear to ear everytime I hear GRANDMAAAAA lashed out in falsetto. Class  :abbath:

I have a slight preference for Conspiracy, but both are essentially perfect  :abbath:

To my shame, I have given conspiracy very little attention  :-[ . Lashing it on now for the first time in years.

Conspiracy is amazing.

Dream Theater - Images and Words

I came back to this last year after probably 20 years of not listening to it and it's doing the job every time now, fucken love it.
